With the curvature of the earth and the various mountains in between it’s pretty much impossible to see it from the Serengeti Also, the wild dogs don’t long for solitary company. They long to eat you alive, anus first. African wild dogs are fucking brutal. Honestly its pretty reasonable to conclude a mountain in Northeast Tanzania overlooks a large geographic region/national park also in Northeast Tanzania, especially using the information readily available to the average person in 1982. Hardly the least accurate song lyric IMO. Also, the singer Joseph Williams is the son of the world’s greatest film composer the immortal John Williams. (Sorry, I can’t help but mention that fact whenever Toto or “Africa” is mentioned.)

My fiance has spent years trying to get me to memorise this one line from this song and you’re telling me it’s Olympus and not ‘a lepress’ which I assumed was a female lion or similar? It takes about four hours to drive from Kilimanjaro to Serengeti. And no mountains in Serengeti. Only an American could be so confident saying something so wrong. TIL it’s rises like Olympus not rises like a Memphis like I’ve sung loudly for 40 or so years. That makes much more sense. Not only is it bullshit but it doesn’t even fit in the line. It’s Raining Men and Let The Bodies Hit The Floor are two songs about the same event from different perspectives My primary memory of the period after 9/11, as someone who was only six at the time, is everyone on the schoolbus making jokes about how you weren’t allowed to sing It’s Raining Men anymore because 9/11, and it had been banned on the radio, and people daring each other to sing it and get in trouble.
