I regret nothing. Perfect ten years of my life, full of adventures, explorations, and self-destruction. But I’m glad that I became a programmer when I got older. Unfortunately, you can’t feed your family with weird stories. Studied biology and specialized in arachnid taxonomy. Submitted my finalized M.Sc thesis on a Monday, did my job interview for a museum scientist position (taxonomist in their Arachnology department) that Wednesday, signed my contract the Butterflies I Will Remember Alzheimer’s And Brain Awareness T-Shirt In addition,I will do this Friday and started my job the next Monday. The jobs are there. You just have to plan ahead. Peruvian biologist. Too much ego within the academy. Painfull stress due to deadlines, results, incompetence, lack of funding….On the other hand, when you get funding from the state, they get screwed and/or exquisite when you are accountable, that in the long run diminishes my mental health. Not at all! But if you’re planning on going into like research science…just know the path to do a bachelors, masters and or phd is long and competitive. The opportunities you get access to is awesome but BE SURE…I was more ambitious in my younger years and I ended up having plenty of stress and anxiety and was overworked and ended up changing my whole career path to be a lab technologist at a hospital. It’s more a choice of passion than money and work life balance. I enjoy being able to leave work at work and not always be on the clip even when I’m at home so I parted ways with academia. Would take me until 33 years old to get working because of this regretful path and because of that can’t start having kids until we were financially set up with two jobs which once your getting up there in your 30s becomes more difficult

I and a few of my friends did biology undergrads…. and only 1 of us is in a job where that undergraduate degree is directly useful to what we are doing now (we’re in Canada). I worked in hospital-based clinical research for a bit, but decided to go back to school for nursing and a big reason I switched was that the Butterflies I Will Remember Alzheimer’s And Brain Awareness T-Shirt In addition,I will do this opportunities for growth in my workplace and field were going to be limited unless I decided to pursue graduate studies – something I didn’t want to do. And even with that pursuit, the market is competitive. I don’t necessarily regret going into biology – I really enjoyed what I studied and my short time in research definitely helped me make connections, giving me gave me a good background for my new life path. I would say that I regret going into biology instead of nursing right out of high school. I wish I was better informed on the job prospects available with a BSc and nothing else, because it was more limited than I believed. Vs nursing which I was also somewhat interested in, and the opportunities are endless with this (especially given the circumstances of the nursing shortage where I live). Probably would have influenced my decision as I could have already have been a nurse for a few years now lol. But hindsight is 20/20 and you may as well spend time doing what you like! If you feel like you are making the wrong choice remember that there are always other options out there. Never too late to make a switch or a change!
