Zed always sounded like a word to me not like a letter. Back when I was a kid I even thought zed was a British word for zombies I’ve never been able to figure out “zed”. They don’t pronounce b as “bed”, or c as “ced”, or d as “ded”, or any of the Breaking Every Chain Since 1865 Juneteenth African American T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this other letters that end in an “e” sound. It has Latin and Greek roots. As such, it’s zed or similar sounding in many European languages. Zeta, zed, zede, zett, … So you’re saying the alphabet has to rhyme according to the arbitrary way it has been arranged over the centuries? Didn’t know this until last year when everyone in Xenoblade 3 kept pronouncing the main villain’s name “Zehd” (Spelled Z in the subtitles cause every villain in that had a letter for a name). Was very confused til I looked this up. The experience also made power ranger’s Lord Zedd’s name click as obviously I never caught that as a kid. Also that Rip Torn in Men in Black was agent Z. Rare instance of USA being right. Lots of letters have the hard “ee” sound. Absolutely no other letters are pronounced anything like “Zed”. As a Canadian, I was giving my postal code (analogous to the US Zip Code, but includes letters and numbers) to a receptionist at a hotel in Maine. The last three characters are 1Z3, which I pronounced as “one zed three”.
