In Leiden. Had a long discussion about The War, the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this previous night, with our hosts. Looking at a historic plaque, I was explaining its significance to my then-BF and clarifying that the Dutch have some residual issues° with Germany for understandable reasons. Guy came up to us and asked, in Dutch, what was happening on the other side of the canal. I understood him and responded – in German. Oops. Luckily he both understood and laughed it off. I then had to explain to BF why I’d just unwittingly done the thing they’d told us not to do. ° not really bad, but our hosts did say that it was much better to speak English than German, in some situations. Since I didn’t think I understood enough Dutch to attempt speaking it, I was surprised as well as embarrassed. I genuinely thought he’d asked and I’d responded in English, until I saw their faces and realised what I’d done.
Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt: buy and enjoy this shirt
Not as big a blunder as you think – the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this not speaking German thing isn’t war related. Did your hosts tell you that specifically? It’s more because Germans have a reputation of visiting the Netherlands and speaking German at Dutch people, (seemingly) arrogantly assuming all Dutch people can switch into German, when English is usually the preffered second language. Especially in Leiden as it’s near the beach towns which attract a lot of German tourists. No, their language warning was not war-related. I forget what the plaque was for but it was war-related so we’d been discussing that just before, and I think I was mostly shocked that my brain could go from “talking about the war” to “and it’s better to speak English” straight to “here’s a handy German answer to the question you were asked; BTW let’s not notice that it was in Dutch and you don’t speak Dutch”. I felt like Basil Fawlty. I think the guy’s surprise was because of the language switch, especially when he realised I was English; he was very nice about it when I apologised, and said it was lucky he’d asked me such an easy question (something along the lines of “what’s happening over there?”). My BF’s was a mix of “she speaks Dutch??” and “OMG did she just upset him?”.
Got it! From how i read it, it sounded like you thought you had offended them somehow by speaking German. But it was just your impressive language skills! In October 2022, I went to Latvia in my first trip as a solo traveller. At the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this suggestion of the hostel I was staying in, I took the train to a lovely little town called Cesis (definitely recommended, it’s a 90 minute straight trip from Riga and when I did it you can get a return for less than a tenner). Two notable events occurred: My phone data ran out because apparently my network doesn’t recognise the result of the 2003 Latvian European Union membership referendum. I walked into the nearest building I thought would have wi-fi so I could call about a top-up, which happened to be an ornate looking sushi restaurant. I felt bad and had to get food. They didn’t have English menus so I tried ordering in the EU’s most difficult language and made a right fool of myself. They only did giant platters designed for two people – I had already eaten lunch. The above resulted in me being backed up with a solid 8 courics worth, so I was relieved to finally find a public toilet. After doing my business, I realised the lock wouldn’t budge. I had to throw my bag into the next stall and climb over like Steve McQueen in the great escape. My foot landed in the bowl – the last person didn’t flush.

Not me, but a mate of mine spent a week in Spain asking for “la queso” after every meal in the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this hotel restaurant. It wasn’t until his last night that the waiter told him, in perfect English of course, that the bill is “la cuenta” and he’d been asking for the cheese every evening. After many a year of laughing at stories of tourists interracting with the wildlife in American National Parks, I (and my friends) went up to a male Elk in rutting season in Estes National Park because it had a collar on so tight that I thought it was a robot. My American friends just watched it happen leaning back against their car a safe distance away. We got, rightfully, shouted at by a park ranger. This reminds me of a time I yelled at a couple of tourists taking silly selfies with a monk meditating in a Thai temple to have some bloody respect, until they told me “you realize he’s made of wax, right?” As a tourist on a small Greek island, we noticed a parade through the village streets. Great photo op, I thought. Local festival, villagers all dressed up etc. Stood in the middle of the small street taking photos as they moved slowly towards us.
Okay well I did once get on top of a bar in Turkey whilst steaming and started to dance on it, fall over, and take half the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this glassware with me. Geeks dont understand Jam, just preserve. I was self catering fancied toast and Jam in the morning. Got a loaf of bread then using a wonderful phrase book presumably asked the shop keep where I might find said queue of traffic or blockage. Got by with honey in the end I went to the Golden Temple in Kyoto. There’s a rock garden there with gravel raked into neat lines and folks would sit around it pondering life. Everyone staying at this youth hostel seemed to be British and in my fuzzy headed state I somehow forgot we weren’t in the UK. So I was quite confused as to why there wasn’t a full English option and only continental breakfast available. I pointed this out to pretty much anyone who came near me.
It was only as I left the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this hostel I remembered/realised we were in Amsterdam. I was that idiot moaning about the food being weirdly European when in mainland Europe. Naively I didn’t check about visas and stuff, and most of the people I worked with were Kiwis and so didn’t need them. Turned up to check in for my flight and they asked for my visa after scanning my passport. To my horror my immediate reply was ‘but I’m British’, which made me feel like a right arrogant dickhead and drew a very condescending look from the desk agent. Fortunately it was free, all online and only took 5 minutes to get, but I still made myself look a right cock and felt very sheepish going back to the desk with my email.
Trying out my very limited Spanish at the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this ticket desk for the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona (where they speak Catalan anyway). Thought I was saying ‘I don’t understand’ (‘no comprendo’). Instead I was saying ‘no compro!’ (‘I’m not buying!’) Switched to English, all resolved… Saying Bonjour as we left somewhere. My partner at the time pissing herself laughing and calling me Del Boy for days afterwards I remember me and my mate were drunk and hungry in Spain after watching a football match, and we stumbled into a fancy fish restaurant. We both ordered the most expensive thing on the menu, which was a large mixed grilled fish platter, and then proceeded to bite through prawns that still had their shell on and fish with the scales on and the entire skeleton still inside them. I remember people staring at us as we cracked through the shells with our teeth and made retching sounds as we tried to wash it down with our pint of lager. We ended up leaving most of the food as it was too much like hard work just to chew it. We paid a generous tip and then went down the street to buy some chips. It was only when I told the missus about the weird food that she told me we were supposed to remove the shells and eat around the bones. I sometimes wonder what the locals must have thought.
I was working over in Ireland for a week, and they asked me what I was doing for “purdy time” to which I asked “what is purdy time?” “Not always!” coming from the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this Englishman was not what they needed to hear. It all got a bit awkward after that. He packed his stuff up and left the office without a word a few minutes later. The first time I had a visa staying in Turkey I was so homesick for english food I made a special trip from the rural area I was staying into to the town to find an M&S. Long story short my heart broke realising when I got there that they sold Turkish M&S food. My little brain deleted the obvious. My kingdom for a pork pie. Attempting to justify my lack of interaction with what she was saying, I once told a homeless woman in Porto that she didn’t speak Portuguese 6-7 times. I only realized after I glanced back at my language notes for falo/fala.
I take your Ghostbusters T-Shirt at the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this site of the Holy Ghost and raise you a Megadeth T-shirt at… The Killing Fields and S21 prison in Cambodia. Yeah the American tourists I was with gave me funny looks before pointing it out. I didn’t have anything to cover it up because it was so damn hot so walked around looking pretty sheepish. Not me but related to your experience with Jesus’ tomb in Jerusalem. An Eastern European woman went into that little Edicule room in the church of the holy sepulchre with two handfuls of candles while I was there with the wife. She toppled over the candle holder and nearly set that whole thing on fire. At least she showed two people how pious she was while potentially destroying one of the holiest relics on earth. NBD
Last year a group of us went to Poland for a (Polish) friend’s birthday. We designed a t-shirt with the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this Polish white eagle looking a bit dishevelled holding a bottle of vodka. My tour guide asked why would I deliberately insult the country I was visiting, and I got a lot of unapproving stares (but maybe that was people just being Polish). In Japan, taxi drivers open the door for passengers to disembark. I didn’t know this, tried to open the door myself, and broke it. Cue one pissed off taxi driver. When I first came to America I was in some bar for some American sports final and made the mistake of playfully booing the national anthem. I was in Liege for an Ultramarathon and was busting out my best GCSE French to an old lady about it. Everything was going fine but she was talking very quickly, so I said “arretez s’il vous plait” or words to that effect. She looked like I’d slapped her in the face and walked away in a huff. It hit me soon after that I’d used the word for stop instead of “ralentir” for slow down. That poor lady. She must have thought I was so rude. This very morning I was in a coffee shop in Gdansk, the barista very helpfully informed me they had two specialties, a Kenyan bean and an Ethiopian bean, “Kenya’s in the pot” to which I, very unhelpfully, immediately responded “How’d you fit it all in” and was met with a blank stare A Ghostbusters T-shirt in the so-called Holy Land is pretty good, except that probably nobody caught the irony.
Had the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this classic drunken naked sleepwalking on our first night in Barcelona, despite never sleep walking in my life. Mrs was also drunk and sound asleep and didn’t let me back in the room despite my frantic knocking. Had to hide and get two lads from the neighbouring room to get the manager to let me back in. Despite an initial heated multilingual interaction involving flailing hands that removed me of all modesty, he wrapped me in a towel like the massive furious hairy baby I was, and let me back in to my room. Mrs still thinks I made it up. Was staying with school exchange host family in Germany. Wore my England shirt and cap on the day they decided to take us on a trip to one of the dams that had been bombed by the Dambusters in WW2
I was in Berlin and nearly everyone in hospitality spoke English. I wanted to go on the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this Hitler bunker tour, which was run by a Scouser who lives in Berlin. I’m scouse too so I asked where it starts, but the feller in the hostel couldn’t understand my accent. Not out of anger, but in a desperate attempt to be understood, I said “Das dritte Reich, sieg heil” and did a nazzie salute. The feller says “please don’t do that, you will alarm the other guests” I didn’t get to go on the tour. Just learned the word for mosquito bite (picadura). Wanted to impress a hot Spanish teacher but had shit pronunciation and said “Profe, tengo pijadura!” Pijadura in Argentina can be translated as ‘hard cock’. She went bright red and begged me to stop and I just kept repeating it trying to nail the pronunciation. There are various ways to say ‘pork’ in Spanish, e.g. cerdo/chancho, and I go into a butchers to get some and got myself all confused and asked for ‘CONCHA’ which means pussy in in Argentina. “Te pido un poco de concha por favor” – the dude lost his shit, I mean LOST his shit, couldn’t contain himself, went into the back and got his family to come out and laugh at me.
I went to Fort McHenry (for those who don’t know, Fort McHenry is where the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this US national anthem was written, after us Brits shelled the place with cannon fire & rockets). We went first thing in the morning, and we were volunteered to help take down the overnight flag and run up their day flag. That’s all fine & dandy, only it was a cold February morning in Maryland and I was wearing a parka. A bright red parka… Trying to check in to a hotel in France after hours (so via an intercom), but struggling to understand. Dropping into my automatic ‘next language’ and saying ‘I’m sorry, could you repeat that slower, please?’ in average German. I immediately recognized my error and had to struggle to get my broken French to kick in. I failed to properly tip an NY taxi driver. Subsequently read guide book suggesting some drivers refused British passengers for this reason
As a teenager learning German. On exchange in Germany. Friend and I pathetically trying to chat up two German girls, desperately using our little bits of German. Cold night so one of us says ‘Ich bin kalt’. This actually means ‘I am frigid’ (correct phrase is Mir ist kalt). Not really anything spectacular but was in Spain ordering a McDonald’s and the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this lad behind the counter said ‘menu?’ and I kept saying something like errr, the main menu? This went on for 3 or 4 turns before I just nodded and said yes. Turns out, menu in Spanish McDonald’s is meal, as in do you want that as a meal? Bit embarrassing, felt like a total out of sorts Brit. I went to the US a few times for work when I was in my late teens/early twenties, and nobody told me about the importance of tipping bar staff. I always over-tip in the US these days, to try and rebalance karma.
I stayed with a Polish friend over new year once. Not sure if this is a widespread custom, but in her town the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this local Catholic priest tours the town a few days into January wishing his parishioners well. A few households volunteer to provide snacks along the way including my friend’s family. So the priest comes in to chat, and he gives us all a little card with a saint and a prayer on it. They presumably explain to him that I’m visiting from England. He then says something to me in Polish (which I don’t understand) and holds out his hand. I found out afterwards he wanted to check which prayer card he had given me. But I…… shook the priest’s hand. Turns out this is not the done thing! Thankfully they all, including the priest, burst out laughing and I imagine to this day they’re telling the tale of the crazy English girl who shook the priest’s hand.
Went to say excusez-moi to the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this lovely french woman who owns the the pizza restaurant in Brides-les-bains but because I know slightly more Italian (like 4 more words and very little of each) I shouted SCUZI at her like the scene in Inglorious Bastards I was trying to buy a hangover cure called Underberg in a bar in Holland. I got the name mixed up and asked her for Underbrook. Which means I asked her for her underwear. Didn’t go down well at the time but she laughed after thankfully. Drunk, fancied a kebab. Rotisserie across the street. Chickens going around on spits, oh yeah, Ile have 1 of them pls. Get down the road a bit, unwrap one end and sink my teeth straight into the nostrils and bone of a sheeps head. Not nice.
(To be fair to him it’s the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this first time I’ve ever heard of a restaurant offering crisps as a side dish to a burger!) Back in the early ’80s, I was in my early 20s, and taking my new girlfriend out for dinner at a Greek restaurant. Anyway, I’d never been to a Greek restaurant before, because I was from Teesside. And working-class. But hey, I thought… “I’ve been to Poly, I read The Guardian, I’m probably middle-class now! And my girlfriend’s from Goole so, y’know…” So the laminated menu (…) arrived, and I suggested we order a meze (“Apparently it’s pronounced ‘mezzay’ not ‘meez’ “, I helpfully mansplained), probably because I’d read about it The Guardian. So, subsequently, this whole array of dishes arrived, all filled with unfamiliar and slightly scary-looking ingredients… some of them covered in sauces!… that weren’t HP or ketchup! But, to show how worldly and confident and sophistimicated I was, I decided to engage the authentically olive-skinned and swarthy waiter by asking about the main ingredient of one the dishes: Reader, I did have the good grace to immediately burst out laughing at myself for having been the very end of a bell. I was on a tour in Australia and the guy was talking about how bad the cane toads were and the damage they did and how they came over on ships from England (basically blaming us) and I asked if they were worse than the criminals we sent over. He got a bit huffy and said no and he was descended from one of those criminals I’d essentially just called an invasive pest. British humour sometimes gets lost in translation. A Brit I know went to Japan to meet his girlfriend’s parents for the first time. Here’s how it went on the first evening:
I had an old map of a city in Spain and asked the Born To Mog World Is A Fuck Kill Em All 2021 I Am Crash Man Dead Ops 2024 Shirt In addition,I will do this taxi driver for “Avenida Generalissimo Franco”. The driver responded “No existe tal calle. Vivemos en una democracia”. My Spanish was just good enough to cotton on that the street had been renamed after Franco’s death and the driver was slightly put out at the mention of his name. Wanting to pay for something in Ibiza and having only very limited Spanish (and no Catalan) I said “Me puede pagar” instead of “Se puede pagar”. The bloke was very amused at the idea that he would pay me! After a long flight, walked out to the edge of the curb, looked to the right, saw no cars coming… Almost got collected by a bus coming the other way as they obviously drive on the right. I was in Amsterdam going from place to place and smoking a bit ….I was absolutely famished so I thought I’d head up to the Damrak to get some scran because MUNCHIES….at the time I was working as waiter so I thought I would order a few things and carry them on one arm…..everything was cool until I got back to the hotel which happened to be owned by the turks,…who are definitely anti drunk stoned British….I was warned that if I didn’t eat it I would have it for breakfast,. So trying to be a clever dick I’m trying to climb the stairs and eat,…at exactly the same time a gaggle of GERMANS came stomping down and bumped right into me….the food went everywhere and I was told rather sternly how in the hell us British won the war….I mean seriously…..sour krauts
