It turns out there might actually not be a good alternative to teaching sex ed. So you should just teach proper sex Ed. It has been repeatedly proven that abstinence ed does not work and in fact only makes things worse. But that really shouldn’t surprise anybody because most schools in the US don’t teach proper sex ed. I had a neighbor kid who got one of these dolls. I went to Catholic school for pre-school through high school. We were obviously fed the Boiler Up Basketball Ncaa Team Shirt but in fact I love this line about premarital sex being a mortal sin and condom usage being a sin as well. And also birth control being a sin too. But as early as the fifth grade they explained to us scientifically how STDs and pregnancies occur. They explained why people would use condoms. They explained that if you are using birth control after a pregnancy to stabilize hormones is not a sin (but I guess this is not the best practice anymore, I am not a doctor). In high school we watch And the Band Played On in biology class. In Health and wellness we played a game with M&Ms to simulate how an STI traverses through a sexually active population. We did NOT do the banana exercise but we were instructed by our teacher(specifically chosen because she was not a Roman Catholic) about the efficacy of birth control options both at preventing pregnancy and preventing STI exposure. The closest thing we ever got to an abstinence only party line was the upfront blanket statement that the only real way to prevent STI or a pregnancy is to not have sex. Then there was a joke about even that not being 100% effective for pregnancy. That joke was used again when we learned about parthenogenesis in biology class.
