Absolutely. R/lose it is chock full of posts from people who were forced to clean their plate growing up, and have to try to unlearn those habits. My best friend who is overweight but not obese told me about this and how his mom did this very thing but also didn’t cook very healthy so he’s been learning to cook more healthy meals for himself and only eats when he’s hungry and stops when he’s full. My 3 year old tries to graze if snack foods all day if she doesn’t have like — something a little more substantial— and also ends up super grumpy when she skips meals. She snacks either way for sure, which is fine — but it doesn’t bother her stomach. I don’t force her to eat a bunch of food but after I’ve made a food she agreed she wanted (plus usually a little bit of a new food to try) I do bring her back to the Big worm’s ice cream los angeles est 1995 T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this table until she says “I’m full” or “I don’t want anymore.” Because before that it’s just the getting up to try to play or not wanting to sit still and eat. Plus — kids do have to learn to sit still and eat. And it helps them realize they feel better if they’ve eaten food and have energy to play and stuff which helps develop healthy habits. I do think the whole “you have to finish this huge amount of food” is messed up. I also think there’s a bigggg difference between forcing a child to eat huge portion sizes when they’re obviously full and having them sit down until they’ve had enough, not just distracted and want to do something else.
