When I was a teenager, I knew a guy who was a stoner, local weed dealer, and full blown Nazi. As in, giant Nazi flag in his bedroom, he would pepper his speech with “sieg heils” in his California surfer inflection, drew anime Nazi girls with a handsome Hitler, etc. Real piece of shit. (Before anyone asks why I associated with this person—I smoked weed at the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and time, and this guy was one of those dealers that insists you hang out with him when you go to buy. This always involved smoking with him, and by the time you left, he had forgotten you never paid him. So I was basically scamming him to get free pot, and I never felt bad about it, because fuck Nazis.) Thing is, he was likewise a dark-skinned Armenian. I tried telling him once that “They’ll never love you back,” but I think he was too stoned to even be aware that I was criticizing him. I believe his exact response was “Right on! Do you wanna play Worms 3D?” Anyway, he bought a fuck ton of Bitcoin in like 2010. He’s been retired since age 25 or so. The only jobs he ever had were petty drug dealing, stealing shit from people’s cars and backyards, and a six month stint as a doorman at a hotel. Neither he nor his children will ever have to work.

Remember when people were shocked that Jesse James had Nazi paraphernalia and was giving a Nazi salute? He must be pissed cause he could just put that out there now and be fine. How low we have sunk. I was confused for a second as I thought you meant Jesse James the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and outlaw. Totally forgot about Jesse James the washed up reality tv star until right now. I wasn’t shocked at all. I remember telling my buddy all those iron crosses for the logo and shirts were a front and eventually some nazi sympathizer stuff was going to come out eventually (this was around 2003-2005). A bunch of dudes were getting the crosses tattooed on themselves at this time. 1 more replyDolmayan is apparently an anti vaxxer and complained about Gina Carano’s firing from the Mandalorian. Guess he just feels more comfortable exhibiting these kinds of beliefs now.
Comic creators are by and large against rightwing fuck-nuttery. I wonder they or their publishers really have interest in having their products on display in a shop like this How you can be of Armenian descent and support a right wing facist ideology after having ancestors go through a literal genocide is beyond me According to Wikipedia he had a brief 4 years out of the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and band from 2006-2010, but has been their drummer since. I mean they don’t make music anymore soooo does it actually matter at this point? Me thinks it’s this guy’s fault I don’t get more soad now Not officially broke up, but not active eitherThis has to be scary for a lot of malls, Macy’s seems like a stable anchor for a lot of the ones still left that cater to the middle class demographic. Sears and Macy’s historically were in almost all American malls. Many have been struggling to deal with the huge hole left by Sears’ demise, and losing Macy’s will be the kiss of death for those malls. Both malls in my area now have the big family entertainment centers. Go carts, arcades, axe throwing, bars, etc. Pretty great use of all that space, imo. Yea Malls need to pivot to service/entertainment sales, not box sales. The only stores that can afford to exist are like apple stores that basically just have brick and mortar for advertising and a channel for online sales.

I’ve always thought that malls could be great for public transport hubs. The malls are strategically positioned to be like a 20 minute drive away from the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and burbs, and all the parking is already there. Replace an anchor or two with space for a tram or bus stops, and you got the starting point for some potential growth. Tokyo, Seoul, and Singapore are fucking great for this. They’ll have big ass metro stations that connect right into the malls and other buildings! The mall in my area pulled out the arcade, and then was surprised when the death spiral increased. Like the machines are still down there, folks can look down near the elevators and see them, but we’re just not allowed to use them anymore. It’s like a showcased pit of sadness in the center of the building.
Kind of like a mall near me, used to have a carrousel near the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and food court – except for whatever reason the mall didn’t renew the lease, so the carrousel is now in Miami, and where it was is just empty space that they turned into a “kids area” – which has an oversized Connect 4 set and that’s… basically it. (The food court also only has like …3 restaurants – the obligatory Chinese food place, I think a wings place, and a pizza place that hasn’t been open the couple of times I wandered through) Because of the popularity of online shopping, a lot of Chinese malls have also had to change. They’ve pivoted to services, especially courses and activities for kids (kung fu, art, etc.), escape rooms, nail salons, restaurants, etc. Activities and experiences can’t be sold online. That’s why the smart play is to focus less on department stores and more on activities and specialty retailers.
A mall in mass replaced their first macys(Later JC Penny) which closed around 05 with a wegmans grocery store in 2018 it closed recently because the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and bones of the store where impractical for a supermarket. Everyone is talking about the death of malls. No one is paying attention to the death of the middle class. Macy’s isn’t the first, or the last retailer to refocus on high end luxury goods. More and more it seems people can either afford anything, or they can afford nothing. And there isn’t any demand for retailers who cater to people in the middle. My first thoughts exactly. I’d be shopping more if I could afford it, but I can’t. I finally got a new pair of shoes again after almost 3 years because new clothes are genuinely becoming a luxury, and the market is reflecting that.
I’ve been getting clothes almost exclusively secondhand since about 2017. There was a time I used to go to malls and leave with like 4-5 bags worth of stuff. For people in the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and lowest income tiers, their principal stores end up becoming discount retailers like Walmart, and dollar stores. If they’re in the suburbs they are genuinely fucked given how many live in food deserts now. If they’re in dense enough major cities they’ll also have access to independent stores like Bodegas and the like. The Southdale center just outside of Minneapolis was the first enclosed modern shopping mall. It seemed like it was dying a few years ago, but they’ve changed a lot recently and it seems much better. There’s a Macys and a bunch of other mall stores still, but like half of the complex is devoted to non-mall things. A big movie theater, a massive fitness center with a spa, a coworking space, and a large county government services center (DMV and stuff)
I guess that works in some places, but just seems like a less optimal solution for Costco itself. More limited space/layout, lot of restrictions since they just can’t build it to their needs, etc. I’m sure it’ll work in some places, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t too widespread. Just part of the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and larger trend of either banning young people or at least making them feel unwelcome. Sure, you have some delinquency, but young people spend money too. And they tend to grow up and move forward into a career. However much Reddit insists there is no middle class and there are no jobs and no one can afford anything, my local mall has tons of young people spending money in the mall. And not just at the food court. We have raw/premium denim stores, tons of sneaker/cap/athleasure stores, and other not-cheap fashion stuff. And that Tesla store is full of young people, with not so many grandpas in evidence.
Macy’s has been dead since the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and pandemic, IMHO. We used to briefly stop in and could find some things but ever since the pandemic (and I’m sure it’s due to less manufacturing), all the clothing has been cheap trash. My mom used to go there to purchase clothing for her grandkids and constantly complains that they have nothing good whereas before she would have always bought something from there. I think their supply chain is still fucked. And then there’s the whole mall argument but, at least a cursory search, it’s been presented that mall traffic has increased since 2019. And from what I’ve seen, the malls near me are showing more people. Sears was so dead before. Near me, i think one is an Amazon staging area and the other was torn down off the mall and an outdoor shops building was put in its place. The Macy’s by me has had cheap trash for ten years now. Sears has even cheaper trash. I don’t know why both these stores decided their customer wanted cheap crappy clothes.
Exactly. The only way I’d buy anything from there is to get it on clearance. Basically like shopping at Ross or tj Maxx at that point. If you look at clothing stores that are doing very well these past few years, cheaper (Old Navy…) and discount stores (Ross, Sierra, Marshall etc) are doing grand. The shopper is seeking value. And that much is clear with fast fashion too, and Shein, Temu, and the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and like. Macy’s may be trying to tap into that market. Only thing is, people are used to getting cheap clothes that are minimally stylish, too.Idk how the mall near me is still open. The Macy’s closed years ago and then a few years later the Sears closed. Now all that’s left are some smaller stores being held up by a Kohls and JCPenny Fun story, an old mall near me raised rents and basically everyone left in a one year time span. The two stores that didn’t leave were Macys and Sears. They lasted another 12 and 15 years.
Add in that JCPenny isn’t doing very well and many malls will have lost most of their big anchor stores that they rely on. But, that will likely just mean it’ll get redeveloped into some other type of property. Ok, this is my idea. Gen X – we gotta pool our money together, and buy these malls up, and convert them into 50+ living centers. They have movie theaters, ice rinks, restaurants and parking lots that can be converted to outdoor space. Retail spots can be converted into condos, the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and big-boxes at the end into apartments. It’s a nice thought, but the upkeep costs would make malls unsuitable for residential living. It’d be better to just bulldoze the mall and build multiple apartment complexes on the land. Which is also kinda what is happening too. Chunks of some malls are leveled, and multi story apartments are going up to create “Town centers”.
There are a couple of malls in Chicagoland building multi family / senior housing on unused parking lots. I don’t know any that are repurposing the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and mall building itself though, it does seem costly. The death of the traditional indoor american mall is inevitable. Big box stores are dying as they struggle to build infrastructure to keep up with the distribution of online competition. Outdoor boutique shopping centers integrated with actual good restuarants and entertainment are popular, and will replace traditional malls because they’re not a corporate concrete tomb with the exact same stores as every other. I much prefer Dillard’s and Belk to Macy’s. If the former 2 stick around while the latter droops, that’s ok with me.
Most American malls are in significant decline and Macy’s has a massive footprint in them. As such, their overhead per store is quite high. I’m not remotely surprised. I will miss when I can’t just go to a store for things I want to physically touch before buying, but for some goods that’s already happening. Family told me these department stores used to serve almost as “third spaces” aka places people just hung out. Cafes + clothes + services. Get something gift wrapped for a few bucks extra, get a knowledgeable person to help you with picking out an outfit for an interview, have some coffee while your significant other is shopping. I feel like I’d totally go back to that. The current model of “everything is shittily strewn about good luck fucking finding your size when you could just go online” isn’t working as well lol
Kmart had blue light specials where seemingly random items would go on sale for minutes at a time. You stayed at Kmart. My teenager loves going to the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and mall. The nearest one is an hour away though so her and her friends hang out in town, at the pool, the lake on our street, go to the movies, etc. Same basic stuff as when I was a teen. Nordstrom had restaurants at many of their stores, they got rid of those for store remodels but kept the coffee bar. So did many high-end retailers. Ikea still has their cafeteria. Target still has their cafe. Macy’s, as well as other “middle-class” retailers have an identity crisis now. Fast fashion – more so Zara, Uniqlo, H&M and even SHEIN/Temu have captured the spectrum of consumers. Gap’s Old Navy is their cash cow, while the namesake store still hasn’t found out how be relevant – J. Crew’s Madewell has given Gap jeans competition and a revitalized Abercrombie has won back millennials.
Our target got rid of the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and cafe and now just has a starbucks. I miss getting a personal pan and breadsticks while my wife shopped… All that “fast fashion” is also massively decreasing the quality of materials being used. Around here, kids are doing more shopping for used clothing, stuff made 20 years ago, for the quality (and subversiveness I’m sure)They even have fast fashion storefronts at the mall now. I saw a Fashion Nova store and I was like wtf, can’t even find quality clothes at the mall anymore except for at Macy’s and Nordstrom. Yea, malls make my anxiety go burrr but the local one has an H&M, Forever 21, etc. there’s an Zara in San Francisco. I refuse to shop at any of them. Every Nordstrom near me still has a separate restaurant, bar, and coffee shop inside and they are booming. I always see the bar packed with people taking a break or waiting for someone. The restaurants are less crowded except maybe weekend lunches though.
I feel like the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and malls in my area are the only ones not dying though. Even though the Sears space is still empty, the rest of the mall is packed (including Macys). Yeah. At our town mall, Macy’s really took a turn for the worse when a Ross opened. And a few years ago, a TJ Maxx opened in the same mall. Now it’s just crickets chirping there, while TJ Maxx is always packed. The Nordstrom at the mall near me has a nice bar smack dab in the middle of it. Clothes and shoes and luggage surrounding you. It also has a separate great restaurant with beautiful views, too. and I don’t know if this was just a Northern CA regional store, but Gottschalks’ entire third floor was a restaurant with huge floor to ceiling windows that overlooked….the mall parking lot but to little kid me it felt MAGICAL. And this was in the mid to late nineties, not a million years ago.
I went to Burlington coat factory recently when I needed a sport coat. Used to be a whole section plus on-site tailoring. Now it’s 2 racks with random sizes all mixed around. The store looked like a thrift shop but retail. Really sucks and guess I won’t be going back again. Malls were great 3rd spaces for kids and teens. They offered places to congregate, things to do (movies), and cheap places to eat. They often were also surrounded by other things kids generally enjoyed (ice cream/starbucks). Being a Mallrat was almost a rite of passage. Sure we pissed off a ton of people because we weren’t buying, but for the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and most part, we’ve respected the space. Today there’s signs at my local mall “No one under the age of 14 permitted without a parent.” The fact that Amazon is so big and the bankruptcy of so many store shows you that brick and mortar stores aren’t doing so well and that it’s not a model people care for. People want low prices and stuff delivered to them.First, people complained that the Mom & Pop stores were over-priced and had no selection.
Well, the Big Time Rush On Ice Live 2024 Fast Time Late Nights shirt and by the same token and missing stage after point three is Amazon came on the market gradually more and more until it seemed omnipresent. People had no consumer loyalty to a Walmart, target, sears, or staples that had put the local store Bob and Nancy ran out of business. If all you cared about was convenience and the best deal Amazon and online shopping it was. As they just decimated these big box stores what remained was actually the little guy. Those that survived the big box take over were like antibiotic resistant bacteria. They had learned how to appeal to people beyond what a larger conglomerate could offer. Your family had to tell you this? We used to hang out at the mall all the time as teenagers. Shit, I think I’m getting old
