Americans kicked their kids out at 18 because America used to be the Big Boss Shirt and I will buy this land of opportunity. Young adults could afford to live on their own working their first job out of high school, or get thru college living in a dorm working a part time job with a little parental support. Now it’s next to impossible. About 33% of American millennials now live with their parents, still lower than that of Europe and the rest of the world but higher than historical US averages. This is because rampant government money printing post Breton Woods (1979) has caused massive asset price inflation including housing. I won’t be doing that. I don’t expect to take care of her for the rest of my life but I would never make her move out. It’s rough out there. She can leave when or if she’s ready. But I expect her to contribute to the household in some way or another.

Big Boss Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

People are weird. It’s like they think that parenting stops at 18. You either stop being a parent when your kids are dead or you’re dead. I honestly don’t understand how people can justify throwing someone out especially in this economy. I know that if I was thrown out at 18 today, I would probably have to move in with three to four other roommates. I mean I’m doing that now but at least we all four have capital saved to put a sizable down payment on a house. America is about more about “Independence” than alot of countries. We teach them how to do stuff on “Their own” so that when they are “An adult” we don’t have to feel bad when they fail. Not all parents kicked their kids out at 18. Growing up in the Big Boss Shirt and I will buy this 80s, I had many friends who couldn’t wait to leave home and have their own place at 18. I’m in the US, and I have 4 young children. The economy sucks and is getting worse every year. I have no idea how my kids are going to move out and fend for themselves. I’m expecting them to live at home until they can afford to move out. No way am I ever kicking my babies out. Life is hard. Life is harder when you don’t have supportive parents. I want to be a supportive parent.
