And the Best my Party Shirt Old Man And Dogs Tommy’s Mother Painting Poster Goodfellas Movie Wall shirt and I will buy this messed up part about those charitable collections at registers is that the corporation skims money for themselves for “operational costs” so your donation doesn’t go where it should. They did make the donation, they just want you to pay them for making it, hoping enough idiots do it so they can turn a profit on their donation. They ask for donations for behalf of charities to show that the company is conscious of the community- even if it’s BS, and it gives some people a “feel good” attitude when they donate. The point of being selfless is that u dont care about what other people think, u do good for the sake of doing good. And on top of that, you give them your money, they donate it, and then they benefit from a tax write-off for being so charitable. I read somewhere that when these stores ask you to donate, they are trying to earn back what they have already donated. That way, the store itself doesn’t shell out any money but gets tax breaks for it anyway. Generally these mega businesess have already paid a lump sum to the charity. Any money you give just goes back to them… I heard that when companies do this they actually already made a donation as a tax right off and are just trying to recoup their money. Please correct me if I’m wrong

What a stupid line of reasoning. Just say you don’t want to donate to charity and move on. A huge company platforming the Best my Party Shirt Old Man And Dogs Tommy’s Mother Painting Poster Goodfellas Movie Wall shirt and I will buy this charity doesn’t make it less charitable. Worse yet, having to be the cashier who has to ask every. Fucking. Customer. It’s so, idk how to describe it, it just always made me feel bad when I was a cashier and corporate would make us ask. Usually the “we are raising money for ______ would you like to donate? You get to write your name on this paper and we will hang it in the store so everyone knows you donated!” So many people would say “why doesn’t your boss donate?” Much easier to publicly ask someone in front of a group of strangers, “Hey sir, are you a total piece of garbage? Or would you like to donate 25 cents to save the life of a child?” But MOST importantly. They get to use YOUR money for a tax write off and contribute even less to society. It’s brilliant really.
