I started meditating A LOT when I was 16 (was hanging out with my friends Lucy and Mary a lot for those that catch my meaning).. Currently am 20 and albeit I don’t do it nearly as often (I would go for 45-90 minutes a day.. now mostly once or twice a week for 10-20 minutes) but I really don’t mind thoughts Sometimes I want to work on focus and practicing the Believe Breast Cancer Awareness Butterflies shirt in addition I really love this act of having a thought, acknowledging I am thinking, then simply let that flow away and refocus.. but other times, especially when there are a million different things crossing my mind I see value in it.. how many people sit down and think? Not many.. but you cannot convince me that spending 20 minutes exploring your thoughts and embracing them.. following along each thought, questioning it, considering perspectives about it, etc. isn’t beneficial. There’s a reason you’re thinking of all these things, diving into those thoughts can be a good first step in having less thoughts honestly I’m an open eye guy, and I leave the contortionism to the Yogis. My suggestion to you would be JUST SIT. You are not going to stop your thoughts; you CANT stop thoughts any more than you can stop your heart from beating or your liver from producing bile; they’re organs, just like your brain, and it’s what they do. Instead, the opportunity that sometimes becomes available in meditation is to see that those thoughts come and go, they are illusory, and serve only to parse and shroud and delude. Meditation is not supposed to be some Sysiphus-like struggle to conquer and silence your mind, it’s just a chance to sit quietly and note “oh, look, this thought or feeling just came from nowhere, and it will return to nowhere”. The idea is to change your relationship to your thoughts/feelings, not numb or mute them. It’s like when you go to the movies, if you pull your perspective back to the point where you can see it’s just flickering lights on a screen, the whole illusion just falls apart..

OP, I have a question; when you close your eyes, do you see pictures in your mind’s eye? I ask because I do not and I’ve always had trouble meditating because of that. I didn’t realize that everyone else DID see things in their minds’ eyes, so I’d be more frustrated walking out of a yoga class than before I came in. They’d say stuff like “picture yourself…” and I’d be like “uhhhh, am I doing this wrong?” I was 30 years old when I realized I was different so I’ve had to adapt a little. Mind blindness actually has a name, Aphantasia, if you’ve never heard of it. Just curious if that might be part of the Believe Breast Cancer Awareness Butterflies shirt in addition I really love this cause! Just observe your uneasiness, make it your meditation topic.
