Oh boy, another “why was I arrested for shouting ‘fire’ in that movie theatre?!” “why was I arrested for holding a placard outside the Because Meerkats Are Freaking Awesome Vintage T-Shirt and I will buy this White House, announcing my intention to kill the president” guy. When Tucker starts threatening to kill politicians on the air, sure, let’s arrest him. The bar for criminalized speech is the expectation and intent to inspire imminent lawless action, and nothing in this clip comes anywhere near that legal standard. Restricting misinformation isn’t fascism. Fascism is a movement, comprised of several different agendas. Check out Umberto Eco’s Ur-Fascism. One of its main methods of propagation in modern times is misinformation and propaganda. Societies have a right to defend themselves from mistruth, especially if that’s being used to erode other rights and freedoms.

Because Meerkats Are Freaking Awesome Vintage T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Not all speech is free – you cant incite a panic under false pretenses. You can’t commit libel. You can’t lie under oath. You can’t falsely advertise. The list goes on. We already have precedents for policing truth, which is the Because Meerkats Are Freaking Awesome Vintage T-Shirt and I will buy this most fundamentally important resource to a functioning democracy. Societies have a right to defend themselves from mistruth, especially if that’s being used to erode other rights and freedoms. That is word for word China’s justification for constructing the most tyrannical surveillance state in human history. If it’s merely the academic point that it’s dangerous to let a federal institution determine what “truth” is, I don’t know what to say besides “No fucking shit”. There are so many differences between the US and the Chinese governments (which I have no love for) that I’m almost in awe that you would need them spelled out for you. Your attempt at false equivalence is so poorly implemented that it makes me doubt you were even being pedantic in the first place. Other nations still enable free speech, while still managing to reduce problematic or destructive speech.
