That’s why in lifeguard trainings, you’re given a board or a tube. The idea is that you keep yourself as physically distant from anyone potentially drowning and provide them a support they can use to lift themselves. I disagree, the Be fucking nice shirt But I will love this risk of the unknown is exactly what makes someone a hero here. If it were warm Caribbean water, I had 5 buddies to help me, the guy is clearly alive , then I’d argue it stops being a “heroic act” and starts becoming basic civilian duty to help. While yes, I do agree with you. The number of people who would help, even in those circumstances, is scary low. Anyone who saves another person, no matter the circumstances, should be recognized. Don’t forget that someone drowning will often grab onto someone trying to rescue them and pull them under in the panic.

Ive jumped into the Be fucking nice shirt But I will love this ocean, in winter, off the coast of canada. The shock of icy cold water should not be understated. You can barely move or breathe. It took everything i had just to tread water. But this video showing complete opposite. 2 untrained saved someone from drowning. Everyone lived only due to their courage and instinct to try to save someone. The key difference is that not everyone is wired like that. If you were there instead, perhaps no one would have jumped in but impossible to predict. idk if it was by accident or on purpose, but waiting till the guy passed out was critical here if they were untrained. a drowning guy will drown you in panic, very easily. swimming with even a child on your shoulders is very difficult to keep your head above. Yep, one of the first things they taught us when being a lifeguard is techniques to try and escape if a victim grabs you. There’s a reason lifeguards use flotation devices and it’s not to keep themselves afloat. It’s to give the victim something to grab onto instead of them grabbing you.
