Donating to charity through a business campaign is a perfectly fine way to donate to charity. There is no nefarious tax evading benefit to the B&B The bold and the beautiful shirt But I will love this business, that is a myth perpetuated by people who don’t understand how taxes work. If you don’t want to contribute to such a PR campaign, then that’s understandable for sure. But at the very least, the charity campaign itself promotes awareness of the charity and its cause, and might contribute to increased donations from people who otherwise wouldn’t have thought to give. So in short this is misplaced indignation. You can be upset about corporations not giving back to the community as much as they should, but don’t express it in a way that demonizes the small ways they DO give back. I am glad Publix stopped doing that clapping with the noise maker thing when I make donations. Just let me enjoy a good feeling without making a big deal out of it.

This is a perfect example of that narrative of a guy seeing an ad for guitar lessons, and getting livid because he doesn’t want guitar lessons. Just out of curiosity is this something you came up with or can you point to a specific part of the tax code that does back this up? From what I heard they do donate it but under their own name and thus get the benefits of donating. Be pretty weird for them to not get any benefit out of besides just PR when the tax code literally gives tax breaks for food donations, clothing donations etc as well as monetary donations so it’s very weird that a business/restaurant can get a tax break from donating food but doesn’t when donating money?!?!?!? If that’s true then they would get better PR and tax breaks from donating food. They pretty universally take a cut from the charity as a fee for allowing them to operate there. Don’t kid yourself. The “PR” of a ten second question on a checkout screen isn’t buying shit. But that million dollar check they get in kickbacks for allowing the charity to use their payment processing? Tada, easy money.
