We have two feeding times: breakfast and dinner. We have dogs so we don’t leave food down all of the Battle for Texas shirt and I love this time. We have a cat that lives outside (with a heated hooch in the garage) and we feed him twice a day as well. Both kitties are thriving! We used to let them free feed the dry food. Now we have a chonk, so we have mealtimes. And the skinny cat looooooves the diet kibble lol We don’t currently have any overweight cats, so I have hard food out all day with wet food served in the morning. If any of my cats weight were to get out of control, I’d probably start scheduling meals. I’m not sure if I won or the kid won. But food bowl full means I get to sleep 15 minutes later before he meows/complains/makes biscuits before I go to pretend to fill his already somewhat full bowl.

We used to do scheduled meals, but then the Battle for Texas shirt and I love this cat realized that the food won’t go anywhere. So now it’s basically there all the time. Mine get scheduled meals because one of them was rescued from the street and never quite got over the fact that he’ll never starve again, so he eats until there’s nothing left. Water always available with scheduled meals. Both of my cats were feral rescues and have strong over eating tendencies. Restricting mealtimes and monitoring intake amounts helps them maintain a steady healthy weight and daily schedule. Pet obesity and over feeding is a huge issue. Chonky cats are cute but also animal cruelty at the end of the day. If your cat(s) are fine self monitoring their food intake that’s great, but most will instinctual overeat. Do you have to do to keep them healthy and happy!
