With my Based Kape vintage shirt so you should to go to store and get this kids, I ask them what they want. If I can make it into a dinner for all, great. If not, it’s just part of it (ex: mac and cheese). I give them about what I would eat (which is like probably less than half of a “normal” adult serving) and tell them to eat what they can, and they can always have more. TBH, it works better than way cause they don’t feel forced. They feel like they have a choice or at least input on dinner, and I don’t yell or anything. If they don’t finish, that’s fine, or I’d they don’t like I’ll make something else (within reason, like if they’d rather grilled cheese instead of fried chicken). I think there’s a large reason from boomers who grew up with silent generation and war survivors Food was scarce so don’t you dare waste it, and that’s sort of slipped down families who think “it’s fine” its one thing to remind a kid to finish his meal.. a kid sized portion!.. and another to yell at him for hours for not eating an adult size amount.

That never happened to me. My parents decided that if I was hungry, I would eat. And my dad was more than happy to eat leftovers on my plate that I didn’t eat. lol But, now that I have kids, it’s like they won’t eat ANYTHING at meal time.
