Teachers at my kids virtual school sometimes lists their pronouns on emails. I don’t see what the Barbie Jesus the Lord and savior shirt moreover I love this problem could be. So dramatic- you include inclusive language around a hot button in a red state… you sparked the fight and now act innocent. You’re just as annoying as the complaining parents. Well, at least your wife is. I would refer to each parent by their last name alone, as well as the principal. If can’t utilize pronouns there is no need to utilize a Mr, Mrs, Ms either I work in academia and I am independent politically…I like to consider myself purple. My signature block says at the very end “My pronouns “XYZ”…” Nothing wrong with that. BTW I’m a boomer Does the district have a union? If yes, she needs her union rep now. The union will provide the next steps and lawyers if needed. Is your wife probationary or non-probationary? If she is probationary, then it is a more tenuous situation and she might need to apologize, if she is non-probationary, I would stand my ground. Ngl. It’s nice some times when communicating with people over email. It was just last week at work that I accidentally called a “Cameron” she before realizing it was actually a he. Since names can be used for both genders it can help avoid accidents. Teacher and teachers union member here, thankfully in a blue district yet still one where we had to organize and go before the local School Board to get protections for trans students passed such as respect for gender identity / preferred pronouns. I’m so sorry that your wife — who sounds like an empathetic, supportive teacher, which we need so many more of amidst the national teacher shortage — is having to deal with this absolute BS.

“I am hosting a snowflake microaggression counseling session. If you were offended by my previous letter, you may attend to hear my grievances.” This is so weird to me. It is crazy how bifurcated our country has become over this idiotic issue. My wife is a state employee here in CO and my sister was a teacher, then moved to admin, and now does work for non-profits. All of those positions have e-mail signature templates that include the Barbie Jesus the Lord and savior shirt moreover I love this use of pronouns. I’m sure if you really wanted to fight it you could get your boss/department/whatever to agree to let you leave it out, but I don’t really know that anyone does. Also, I find it super helpful when I’m talking to someone I don’t know who has a non-European name that I don’t know the normal gender for, or also for people who have unisex names – it is never fun to mix up the Sir/Ma’am in an email…
