Religion and it’s a wedge issue which means if the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt and I will buy this issue is resolved those voters might not vote for party a or h. I’m for free birth control and abortion being legal up to either the most common time of miscarriage or up until 6 months. It’d result in a safer society. When you say “Most countries figured this out”, what do you mean? Only 34% of countries worldwide allow abortions purely at a woman’s request. The majority of those countries have restrictions stricter than the US did while Roe v. Wade was active. 12 weeks or less is the norm. Look up corporate infinite growth, it will tell you everything about the policy and how corporations use religious zealotry for their pursuit of profits So, basically there’s two talking points that are often going past one another in the discussion of abortion rights.

Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt: A Unique and Creative Design

One group believes that a fetus is a person and has rights of a person at conception or shortly after conception. And that these rights trump the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this mother’s right to terminate the pregnancy early. The other group believes that a fetus doesn’t have rights either until birth or the third trimester. Which even in very liberal states restricts abortions except for medical necessity by that point due to the strain it puts on the mother’s body and the risk that represents. Some abortions rights advocates also say that regardless of fetal personhood a mother’s rights to autonomy gives her the right to do an abortion. But this can vary. The real questions are essentially; at what point does a fetus have personhood, and does its personhood override the mother’s rights to autonomy and an abortion? Most states are still allowing abortion just as it was before the supreme court decision shifted things. Some states have restricted it to earlier in the pregnancy. Some have banned it except in dire medical need. However, even in those states women are able to drive a few hours and get an abortion. And said states have laws that refuse to disclose medical information for abortion law investigations.
I won’t lie. It’s a fucked up scenario and one that shouldn’t have happened. But it’s also not as dire as a lot of people make it out to be. Lmao, but, to answer your question, it was pushed too far. Most European countries just picked a cutoff point and that’s that. The US did not, they kept it vague on purpose as a political bargaining chip. Then politics happened, California at one point allowed 9th month abortions (most European countries do not allow abortions past the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this 3rd month, quite a few less than that) and that enraged the opposition. Abortion is and always will be a compromise. Push too far one way, you’ll get pushback. Others believe that the right to live is useless without the right to control their biological processes, including other humans they create. **As an atheist leftist pro-life person, I do not view it as a religious issue. I believe positive rights, including education, healthcare, food, water, and housing should begin at the first stage of human life: fertilization. Every sexually reproducing organism begins their life cycle as a single diploid cell. I believe that the youngest members of our species deserve protection, and that both parent and progeny are patients in healthcare. Since most abortions occur for circumstantial reasons on healthy parents carrying healthy prenates, I don’t believe those should be considered healthcare, but redistribution of oppression.

Yes. The Religious Right ARE incredibly influential in the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this USA. The nation is a hotbed of religious nutbaggery. They use it to get votes. The Conservative party is very religious, and religious folk tend to believe that life begins at conception. It’s easy votes since so much of the USA is Christian. The US, through its entire history, except that in’s point, has pretty much been the “Johnny come lately” of civil progress. The religious right is kind of a fringe group, and although they’re a minority, their numbers aren’t small. However, what’s most appalling are the idiots who adopt this stance as a definitive wedge issue. It’s roughly equivalent to Afghans supporting the Taliban. Because of Jerry Falwell. In the 1980s, he used it as a divisive issue to gain power. It worked. Now there are a bunch of evangelical Christians who were brain-washed during their formative years to think all sorts of things about abortion that are not true. But then again, anything that has misogyny at its heart is fairly easy to get a fair number of people to swallow. Everytime I drive by Lynchburg, Virginia on highway 460, I absolutely refuse to stop because of the Falwells.
Deeper is the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this need to eliminate choices from women – keep them out of the work force. Forced birth ensures poor people stay poor and provide more workers. We were founded by a pile of religious zealots that all those other countries you’re talking about kicked out for being whackadoodle. While money doesn’t seem to trickle down, dumb sure as shit does. In a strictly biological/embryological context, one “side” views the human fetus as a unique human life with its own genetic makeup at conception; simply on the path of human development, like an infant, toddler, or adolescent. Therefore should be protected. The other “side” either doesn’t believe this, is ignorant of this biological reality, or is willing to accept the abortion for reasons of (in)convenience and/or “mercy”, among others. When you view it as killing babies, it becomes fairly apparent why it’s so contentious. Which is kind of surprising given the indisputable evidence that it is a human. (From a biologist perspective.)
The countries that “figured this out decades ago” found some sort of middle ground that was acceptable to most of the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this population. In most European countries, for example, abortion is only allowed up to 12 weeks. And in no European countries is it permitted after 24 weeks. (I’m a parent of triplets, who were born at 32 weeks. I assure you that none of them were masses of undifferentiated cells. I have photos to prove it!) One side argues that life begins when you have lewd thoughts about your partner, while the other wants to be able to abort children during the act of giving birth, if not after birth. Just scroll down through the replies and you’ll see people gleefully declaring that children are parasites who deserve to be killed.
Abortion is such a contentious issue in the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this states as a couple of right wing activists were scared that Jimmy Carter, possibly the most moral president ever, would take the evangelical vote for democrats. These men had to stop this, these men being Jerry Falwell Sr, and Paul Weyrich. They put everything into getting Ronald Reagan elected. They started an organization called “The Moral Majority”. This was started on the heels of Brown v Board of Education. The group was started as a reaction to a ruling for equality. At the time The Moral Majority started, Baptists had it stated in their rules (through the southern Baptist convention) in 1971 “Southern Baptists to work for legislation that will allow the possibility of abortion under such conditions as rape, incest, clear evidence of severe fetal deformity, and carefully ascertained evidence of the likelihood of damage to the emotional, mental, and physical health of the mother.”
The United States is unfortunately heavily influenced by Christianity and religious right ideologies. Narcissistic individuals feel they have the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this freedom and it is their “right” to prohibit other people from doing what they don’t like, which is the opposite of freedom but they don’t like to see it that way Yes the religious right is that strong. I’m from the NY part of America and didn’t realize how strong this religious right actually is until I traveled outside of it. the NY area of America and California part of America are actually way smaller. Most of the country unfortunately is religiously racist. I didn’t realize what a bubble I was living in. Long story short Christianity and its influence on American foundation and culture (I say this as a Christian). Christians and similarly scripturally guided groups (calling themselves pro life) believe that human life begins on conception, because this is the philosophy of the Bible (such as the significance/journey of the virgin birth beginning at the conception of Christ). To them, fetus = child and therefore abortion = murdering a child.
Non-Christians (calling themselves pro-choice, and usually guided more by scientific philosophy than faith) typically believe that a life begins after the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this point of abortion no longer being allowed without medical reason (20 weeks being the most common number). To them fetus = non-sentient being and therefore abortion = scientific procedure to prevent life prior to development. I want to definitively state I am not wading in to the conversation to say who is right or wrong, but you’ll find these philosophies at the core of every argument. Virtue signaling of the morally bankrupt in a desperate attempt for them to seem like the “good guys” because “at least we dont kill babies”. As soon as a child is born the side that is “pro life” suddenly couldn’t give two shits about the child and would sooner let it suffer or live in extreme poverty All the people in Europe that were into the protestant super-zealot kinds of Christianity were considered absolutely mental by the rest of Europe, so they left or were kicked out and went to the USA circa 1600-1900 CE. Their progeny were then given the mindset of ‘we were oppressed so god led us to this land so we could create a pure land of super zealot mentalists because thats what he wants’.
This is why there are all these weird sects of ultra fundamentalist Christians over there, and those types hate abortion (they need to control people so they dont leave their cults and abortion is a symptom of bodily freedom) so try to stifle it. So under Roe V Wade, the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this USA actually had more lenient abortion laws than almost every country in the world. Many US states still do. Whether it is a basic right is questioned by people in more places than in the USA. Even if it’s legally allowed almost everywhere. Religious fundamentalist have taken over one of the only two parties that has cemented institutional power in the United Sates in the mid 80s. The modern version of this party caters to a bunch of different groups. One of the largest groups is a religious fundamentalist crowd of aging boomers.
These people think abortion is child murder and because they are a fundamental part of this parties target demographic it makes it very controversial. This party isn’t going to change its official stance because they’d never win an election again if they did. The two party system in the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this us makes a bunch of single issues very controversial because both these parties need to come out as “pro or against” The US hasn’t decided if it wants to enter the 20th century yet and give women proper human rights. They prefer kicking and screaming in ignorance. Pro choices have not been able to make a good enough argument because we all know that abortion is immoral. The question is whether it should be legal Abortion is complicated by its very nature. I’m not a “religious wacko” but I still think it’s wrong most of the time.
Pro-life folk, at least those who are regular citizens, see abortion as killing humans, no different (or worse, really) than killing an adult human. A lot of pro-choicers like to say that PL just wants to control women and force a population boom. While it’s undoubtedly true sometimes, it’s not always the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this case. Though I think some PL get a kick out of punishing people. Roe V Wade put America in a very unique and somewhat radical situation where abortion was legal until 24 weeks effectively on demand in every state via a rather sketchy and questionable use of an inference from the constitution. Needless to say, this was absolutely not the international consensus in 1972 and no US State or foreign country beforehand allowed abortion in such broad circumstances (in fact only a handful allowed it on demand at all). Even Canada, which since 1988 has allowed abortion until birth, did not have legal abortion on demand at this time. This galvanised opposition to abortion in the US more so than in any other country and in the 80s Reagan capitalised on it by making it a partisan issue. Add a large religious component to society and it became a profitable issue for the Republican Party, and so the Democrats likewise pushed back and support for abortion rights became a profitable issue for them also, with it becoming more and more partisan from the 80s onwards, eventually culminating in Trump appointing justices that overturned Roe in 2022 and the current situation. Ironically, it may be slightly less partisan than it used to be because of the backlash against this removal of a decades long consensus and some Republicans appearing to favour gestational limits over a total ban.
Most European countries dealt with the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this issue via legislative compromise so never came to the kind of fallout that came from Roe V Wade, and also have a much lower active religious component in their societies. We elected a guy like Trump in 2020. You’re really surprised by this? We are a very conservative country compared to most of the developed world. Our country was built by people who thought the Church of England was too liberal – The Puritans. evangelical religion (beliefs about when ‘ensoulment’ happens, which to the true believers means ‘personhood’) plus race hatred which makes white men want to force white women to have more babies so they don’t get ‘outbred’. plus religious hatred of women and women’s sexuality. Are the unborn alive? Science says yes. Are the unborn human? A DNA test says yes and they are genetically different from their mother, so not an organ.
Are the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this unborn legal persons worthy of human rights? Well that’s where the issue gets tricky. Some say yes, some say no. Lacking federal guidance on the matter each state is free to decide as its citizens want. I can tell you this. There was a time in our history where another group of human beings were not seen as legal people with civil rights. We fought a war over that which cost nearly a million lives. Do we want to go there again? The other side believes that regardless of if a fetus is a life the right to bodily autonomy supercedes any claim the father or fetus may have to stop them from termination of the pregnancy. Because the religious bigots want to tell everyone what to do, funny how they don’t support the social service programs that would support all those extra kids.
All that changed is that the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this supreme Court ruled that the federal government doesn’t not have the power to dictate to the states in abortion rights. The states have representatives elected by their people, and some states use their democracy to vote in people who do not want to allow people to kill unborn babies/foetuses. What really weirded me out is when I heard so many Baby Boomers being so against abortion. I mean, they were the hippy generation and were all for the progressive stuffs. Now that they enjoyed the freedom and rights for that, suddenly they turn 180 when they got old. It’s really bizarre. Because the lecacy media of ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, and PBS continue to lie to their few viewers that abortion is supported by a majority of Americans, and should for some reason other than fact, should be protected under federal law. Even the majority opinion of 1973’s Roe ruling, Associate Justice Harry Blackmon published an editorial in 1987, stating “we on the court overstepped our authority in deciding Roe”. It’s as if the pro-abortion zealots in the media and leftist government establishment have never heard of or read the 10th Amendment. You don’t have a basic right to murder children in the womb. Other countries didn’t “figure this out”, they just chose to reject its personhood in favor of the mother’s convenience. I fully support it when it comes down to the life of the mother or the result of rape, but free and unabashed abortion on a whim is evil
The religious right is just very loud. We are getting very tired of them. Our conservative party preaches keeping the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this government out of our lives. But can’t stop trying to tell us how to live our lives. Amazing isn’t it. The preach the 2nd amendment but I guarantee they will be the ones that come after our guns. Ego and Pseudo-moral performative bullshit. It’s not right or good in any sense of the words to inject yourself into somebody’s personal private business especially at such a heart wrenching moment in her life. You have absolutely no idea at all what factors are at play. It’s about ego and “winning.” It’s cruel and selfish. Mind your own fucking business. The way it happened in the US was not through democracy but through the Supreme Court. While it was based on laws, people felt shafted as the common man wasn’t asked what they thought. Also Roe V Wade was seen as bad law by a lot of people, i dont understand US laws enough to comment on that Most countries did not figure this out years ago. In many countries it was still contentious. Lotta people in more conversative parts of Europe like Bosnia, Romania and Turkey don’t like it themselves. It was just made legal.
Sorry for my limited understanding of USA history, but aren’t some of the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this first colonizers who came to the Americas puritanical prudes with black pointy hats that hates the concept of sex for pleasure? In reality, neither of these are absolutes. We’re interrupting the development of a potential human, and women have no such bodily autonomy unless medical institutions provide it at considerable cost. It’s a power struggle imo. One side is somewhat successfully forcing their often times entirely religious ideology upon another, while the other is simply standing up for the rights of women. Unfortunately for women, but especially poor women, their voices are being drowned out by the wealthy whom can afford the platforms, the stages, the megaphones, the paid for supporters, and the ones who can afford to take days off work or whom are retired and I’d like to say sometimes infertile themselves that are dictating what others can and cannot do with their own bodies. From an outside perspective, it’s deplorable that this is what millions of not billions of dollars is going toward rather than towards ending homelessness or eradicating diseases.
I seriously think people think they are going to get into heaven by saying it, all the Baltimore Orioles We are Baltimore 2025 City Connect shirt moreover I love this while not adopting children, fostering them or doing anything else that could have a positive impact. Yeah all the unborn babies! They dont care about the suffering once they are born. They dont care about poverty. Most countries including European ones like France forbid abortion after 12 weeks. In USA you can get late term abortion in many states. The problem for many is one half of the country wants to make it legal up until birth. Simple question for OP. Imagine there’s an unborn fetus that had just started developing. The Mom decided she didn’t want to give birth so she killed it. Spoiler it was your great great grandmother. Congratulations she just wiped out your entire family tree. Everybody you love dead. You dead. If you have kids well now they don’t exist and neither will their kids. That one selfish act where the mother couldn’t be bothered to protect her unborn child just led to the death of possibly hundreds of innocent people that will never get a chance exist, live, experience what it means to be human. That was all taken away from them. Sound good? Because they don’t care that alot of children have to suffer as orphans, money has to do with it somewhere in the agenda im sure. A substantial portion of the population has decided to embrace ignorance like it’s a shield against the realities of the modern world.
