I think this is something that held over from when food was less available. Kids were forced to eat because that was all there is and food was harder to get. It couldn’t be wasted. I don’t do it, my daughter can eat however much she wants and stop whenever but I think that’s probably why it started My kid doesn’t like to sit down and eat a meal. We don’t give him adult sized portions, but we do give him healthy and good amounts of food. A normal meal might take anywhere from 15 minutes (for a small meal, like a sandwich, some chips, and a glass of water) to eat, while some of the Baker Mayfield Signature American football quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cartoon T-Shirt moreover I love this larger and more complex dinners might take a little longer (lasagne taking like 20-30 for instance). These meals can easily double, possibly even triple, in time it takes when he doesn’t eat… which is often. It has nothing to do with him not wanting to eat either, it’s very obviously an attention issue (not him seeking attention, but the idea of dinner doesn’t hold his attention) as there have been many instances of “I’m full” followed by “I want a snack” twenty minutes after dinner dismissal. He asks to go to the bathroom literally every time we sit down to eat, and takes about 15-20 minutes in the bathroom to avoid eating.

No Switch privileges at all until the Baker Mayfield Signature American football quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cartoon T-Shirt moreover I love this plate/bowl is clean. No getting up from the table once seated for a meal. Water/Drink must be finished for dinner to be considered finished. Tantrums about dinner result in immediate loss of all privileges, still having to finish the dinner, and early bedtime. Why? Multiple reasons. First off, food’s incredibly important, especially at his age (7-13) because he’s actively growing and developing every day. Less food means less vitamins, less vitamins means “weaker” growth and we want him to be as healthy as possible. Second kinda factors into first, but finishing his water is equally important. Your body needs water, it might love other things, but going without water for an extended period of time ends badly. He doesn’t like drinking water just normally, so this is our way of ensuring he’s at least getting some hydration. Third’s time, he takes entirely too long to just eat a meal. Any plans we make, which are usually family plans for like a movie night or a Smash Bros session, end up having to be cancelled or pushed back to another night because he will take well over an hour to eat sometimes.
