I’m like black coffee: an acquired taste that people tend to either really like or they can’t be bothered and I’m fine with that. Some people will let some small aspect of your personality that they don’t like define their entire perception of you. Those aren’t typically people you want to be friends with. Don’t sweat it. I learned that my own mother, in a conversation with my sister I wasn’t supposed to hear, viewed me as an eternal fuckup and disappointment that wasn’t going to amount to anything. It just confirmed what I already knew. So I became free of their fucked up expectations for me and their attempts to sabotage me into their fucked up viewpoints of me. I wasn’t depressed, sad or angry anymore. I was determined, motivated, and most of all, PISSED! Anger and revenge became my best friends, and motivators for success. They’re VERY effective. I have a few friends that are “hard to take” for me. I find them loud and somewhat abrasive. I have to limit my interactions so I don’t start to actively dislike them.
