While we’re at it, let’s tax the fuck out of these multi-billion-dollar businesses so we don’t have to give charity at the checkout counter. Ours asks if we want to round up to the closest £1, even then it’s a no. Food shopping gets more and more each week it seems, you give the 50p from what you’ve charged me over what I paid last week. Just donate the money directly to who you want to. Not all charities are good, points at March of Dimes, and lord knows who Walmart giving that money to. My GF works in food recovery and she told me the scam is that they count the extra money you donate as revenue and write it off on their taxes when they pass it on to the charity. Brilliant and evil. Devil’s advocate, the business is willing to use their considerable amount of interaction with the public to advertise for the cause, often annoying their customers in the process. They could just as easily ignore the cause altogether. Sure, there are benefits for the corporation in doing these fundraisers. But it could be even worse than it is.
