Since the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this colonies were separated by a massive pond, the US Colonies didn’t experience as much of a drift in accent. It’s possible that during this time, and I’m thinking somewhere between the reign of George III and Victoria, the shift in England from “ZEE” to “ze” had occurred. Why do I suspect this? Because not very far away, in Canada, we pronounce it as “zed”, though we tend to retain a more “neutral” accent, and do pronounce hard “r’s”. Australians also use “zed” but they do not pronounce r’s as harshly as Canadians and have more of a ‘Cockney’ style accent, suggesting that most of the “settlers” (to use the term loosely) there would have come after the linguistic shift. There are pockets in Canada that do pronounce it “zee”, but kids who say it that way tend to get a slap on the wrist because it’s not “proper Canadian English”.
Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt description
Much of the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this first English settlers into Canada were Loyalists who fled the colonies during the revolutionary war, so they would have brought with them the American pronunciation of “zee”. However, since Canada remained a British Colony, much of British diction would have also been handed down to teachers who came to tame the Boreal Forest. I’m Canadian and say “zed” because we’re civilised. I lived in the US for ten years, and just got used to saying “zed/zee” because I could never remember. It was, and then British English changed. The English spoken, especially in the east coast dialects, is closer to historic English than modern British English is. American here. And I thought that “zee” was the universal pronunciation. Never knew that other English speakers (like the Commonwealthers whom, in my opinion, speak the English language incorrectly: “left-tennant” instead of “lieutenant”?) do this with the letter Z. Very strange!
But then again, we’re talking about the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this same folks who are always adding “er” to words that end in “a”. Instead of saying America they’re saying “Americer”. General consensus seems to say that the British got Zed from the Greek name for ζ which is referred to as “Zeta” this moved into Latin as Zeta and ultimately it moved into Middle French as “Zede” the Normans invade England and introduce a lot of Middle French words. Old English evolves into Middle English were a heavy influence of french words, such as “Zede”, persists today. As English starts turning into early modern english (Shakespearean english) a lot of borrowed french words become Anglicised and Zede becomes “zed”. The best I’ve got for American “zee” is that it’s made to match the pronunciation of the rest of the letters of the alphabet. In general it just comes down to the fact that due to a history of the English and Americans wanting to distance themselves from each other (Merriam-Webster’s dictionary) and that language evolves over time British English and American English are gonna have a lot of differences.

It’s only with the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this advent of movies, tv and even youtube/other social medias have these differences have become really noticeable. As a Brit I don’t really care, we can still talk to each other, enjoy each other’s media, ect without having to learn an entire new language and that’s really cool. Now, what I do have a problem with is why you call Toilets, “Bathrooms” if they don’t have a bath in them? Like what’s up with that? /s Probably why entree means the main course in the US/Canada and means the starter in every other country. Or how biscuit means a soft bread/scone in the US and means a hard sweet thing that is close to a biscotti (twice baked) in the rest of the world. 878 more repliesIt all comes from the Greek Zeta. Americans cut it off at ‘Ze’ All the other English speaking countries cut it off at ‘Zet’ (Zed) Why not be a full purist and demand we all go to something like Zeda, to be even closer to the Greek! Y’all are still saying it wrong. If you’re military, it’s “zulu”. In fact the whole alphabet was changed to eliminate any confusion. The pronunciation of “Z” as “zee” in American English instead of “zed” like in British English is likely due to historical linguistic evolution. When English settlers arrived in America, they brought their language with them, but over time, language naturally evolves, influenced by various factors including regional dialects, cultural influences, and societal trends. The pronunciation of “zee” likely became standardized in American English through these processes, setting it apart from British English. It’s one of the many fascinating quirks of language evolution across different regions. I once had a lady come to my class when i was in high school for a coaching class advertisement. When interacting, she confidently corrected a guy that it’s “zee” and not “zed”. I still feel second hand embarrassed for her.
The pronunciation difference between “zee” in American English and “zed” in British English stems from the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this evolution of language influenced by cultural and regional factors. I dont know if its credible, but when I looked it up years ago, i found that there was different pronunciations spread throughout the colonies during the same time they really may as well have been different countries. So I guess before there was an acceptable standard across them? Anyway, it got so bad people would apparently argue and get in a tizzy over it until a dude finally said let’s all just pick something “wrong” and “different”. So it would go from several different wrong pronunciations of “zed” and went to “zee”. Don’t know if it’s right, but it is a fun answer. So you know when we have all these letters that already have the same pronunciation scheme having a wildly different zed as much more jarring than a zee
On top of everything else mentioned in the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this comments it’s because Americans have their shit together. And don’t mention Health care, gun control, poverty, school shootings, equal rights, education, welfare, or overall peace of mind. The better question in all these cases is to ask why the British started changing THEIR speech patterns, not the colonists. Cause we aren’t weird. We say THree too, not free. And feet in most people’s cases is a foot. 12 inches = foot = my foot = feet Zed actually came about during WWII. When inter plane radios and other talkie radios were used, primarily in Europe, thry used “zed” to pronounce Z to differentiate between B (Bravo), C (Charlie), and V (Victor). In writing, a line or hash mark is included in the verticle part of 7 to differentiate it from the 1, and also with the Z to differentiate it from the number 2, and the oblique like in the 0 / (zero) to differentiate it from the letter O. Zed stuck as common place in Europe, where as the others were lesser used except in Amature radio, military radio, police, etc., and some customer support companies when reciting long serial numbers, etc. The better question is how the heck did we have all these -ee sounding letters, like b,c,d,e,t,v, etc, but somehow ended up with freakin zed. It’s stupid and I’m glad it got changed to “zee” Zee is a much more appropriate naming convention, as it fits with the rest of the alphabet. Bee, Cee, Dee, etc. It also becomes much closer to the pronunciation of the letter.
Obviously, not all letters are always said as they are individually, silent letters, long a’s, short a’s, etc. But zero times is a z pronunced “zed” in any word or use case outside of saying “zed”. Because American English is more sensible. We dropped all the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this odd spellings and pronunciations. But one thing I can’t understand is why in America we say “math and sports” while the Brits say “maths and sport.” You must be pretty flexible to stretch like that. “We Americans” doesn’t assume the listener is also Americans. The “we” there means that the speaker is also in the group. It assumes nothing about the listener. Agreed. I’d be careful with any post or newspaper article or political advert that uses WE. Like I always think who the hell is we because I’m certainly not it.
When the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this Roman empire conquered Greece, Greek was brefily, at the time, written with the Latin alphabet. Two sounds existed in Greek that did not have latin letter equivlanets. These were upsilon Υ and Zeta Ζ. These letters got added into the alphabet at the end, as Y and Z. Zed comes from Zeta, hence the name of the d. Upsilon (literally simple u in Greek) was undergoing sound shift becoming more like an I sound, and hence was called “Greek i”, the name that is retained in languages deriving from Latin (Spanish, French, Italian, etc.) Zed is pronounced different because it was derived differently, directly from the Greek alphabet rather than through the Etruscan one (who themselves got it from the Greeks). It would be just as reasonable to ask why that is, as to ask why it’s pronounced in the same way as many other letters by some people.
The creation of ‘zed’ would be the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this real question. No other letters have an added consonant, just different added vowel sounds to be able to pronounce it. When the Roman empire conquered Greece, Greek was brefily, at the time, written with the Latin alphabet. Two sounds existed in Greek that did not have latin letter equivlanets. These were upsilon υ and Zeta ζ. These letters got added into the alphabet at the end, as y and z. Zed comes from Zeta, hence the name of the d. Upsilon (literally simple u in Greek) was undergoing sound shift becoming more like an I sound, and hence was called “Greek i”, the name that is retained in languages deriving from Latin (Spanish, French, Italian, etc.) However, beta did not become bed, theta did not become thed, and eta did not become ed. So the variation stands, even if those changed sooner than ‘zee’.
The Latin alphabet comes from the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this Etruscan alphabet, not the Greek one, hence it doesn’t retain Greek names. Zed is the only consonant that directly entered the Latin alphabet from Greek. The change from Beta to Bee occured in Etruscan, not in Latin, and was already finished by the time Zed was added. Zee becoming Zee happens in a single dialect of English over a thousand years later. Except every letter has a vowel sound in its name. The “d” is a completely unnecessary addition. The whole point is simplicity and you “zedders” keep adding unnecessary adornments. I despise the US education system for drilling stuff like this into my brain, stuff that’s different from the rest of the world for the sake of being different. If I were to start saying “zed” with my regular american accent people would just stare at me like I grew a second head. Plus I’m just not used to it.
The metric system is another example, I try to use kilometers whenever applicable but when I use them out loud I’m almost always asked to translate it into miles. Plus I’m just NOT TRULY USED TO IT LIKE I SHOULD BE! When I grew up, it was centigrade, stones & pounds for body weight, feet & inches for body height. I can remember the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this switch over from Oz to Grams in shops for food weight. I remember when the US tried to go metric or at least teach metric. All my science classes were metric. Now it’s used for soft drinks, drugs, and guns. Well it’s one thing America’s got 100% right. Its Aee Bee Cee Dee not Aed Bed Ced Ded. Have some consistency rest of the world The poor woman wasn’t at any fault!! Her unborn child wasn’t at any fault!! We’re still living in a civilized society, right?! Such barbarism!! And then we complain that India is unjustly labeled as an unsafe place!! What a fucked up state of events. How is society so fucking regressive. Unbelievable we have to share this earth with scumbag rapists and murderers like this. Hope every one of these assholes get the rope You know, I don’t wanna sound dark or uncivilized but rope is letting them go easy. I wish firing squad on them so the fear and pain is there and sets an example for others Violence against women is such casual way to handle problems. It is beyond awful that this poor woman has been dealt this hand. Terrible shame for us all.
Basically bottom of barrel in every socioeconomic parameters – education, health, population control, casteist, racist, poor law & order, worst education of women, violent crimes, riots. PS: Crime reporting rate is called crime rate. Higher the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this value shows people has confidence in law and order mechanism. These places usually will have low actual serious crimes like murder, riots etc I’m tired of this. I’m tired of opening this subreddit everyday and watching the same kind of news flooding in, same barbaric nature of crimes committed towards different women everyday. I’m tired of this topic being so normalised that even when you are worked up over it, you can’t do much about it unless people as a whole or government does something and most people’s attitudes have morphed into “what can be done?” “it happens everyday” attitude. This is rock bottom for all of us as a society in terms of safety for women and I’m sick and tired of it. The usa calls football soccer, uses Fahrenheit instead of Celsius, and format dates in the wrong order. There’s a lot wrong going on there.
I always thought non-US English speakers said some stuff weird just for the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this hell of it. Everywhere else they add a completely non-existent letter to “aluminum”. There is no “I” before any “u” in the word. Zed has always been weird to me. Why would an alphabet letter – representing a single sound – need two consonants and a vowel when said out loud? A sound that does not reflect how the letter is used in words? You do realise the alphabet doesn’t actually HAVE to be in any particular order, right? It could go ehitczsalpoyubmqk (etc) and it would still have 26 letters. My theory as someone without an education on linguistics and more. Throughout history there’s the same pattern; nomads settling at a location, some being succesful and growing to become a civilization. People evolve, develop until there’s some asshole becoming the leader then you have people knowing he’s an asshole (it’s almost always men save for the few matriarchical civilizations). The leader wants to retain power, less sharing thus evolution of the mind slows down or halts entirely. Those people who disagree with such assholes don’t want to be lead by said asshole, don’t want to become assholes themselves so they pick up and leave to start somewhere else. They change their language, likely they already made a dialect to distinguish themselves from said assholes but also to recognize eachother and as a bonus to keep it a secret they actually dislike the leader. This repeats itself forever.
I once spelled a word to an American (I thought he was a pretty smart American) and he couldn’t understand what’s “Zed” until he was like “ohhhh you mean Zee”. Although smart, he was an asshole, especially for foreigners. Probably because of the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this same reason they say sodder instead of solder and oragano instead of oregano they don’t speak the kings english. I’ve never heard someone pronouncing it “zed” other than the Brits and Australians. Everyone else worldwide pronounces it “zee.” Because alphabets should not be words. Aed Bed Ced Ded Eed Fed Ged Hed Ied Jed Ked Led Med Ned Oed Ped Qed Red Sed Ted Ued Ved Wed Xed Yed Zed The real question is why would anyone else call it zed? Tradition? It sounds dumb. Is any other letter like that? Maybe W should be pronounced “wuh” or something but “zed” is just jarring and awkward. Why do people care so much about how we pronounce 1, rarely used letter? Does it really effect your life in any tangible way? Why do we have to be like everybody else? Why can’t people just see our differences and just let them be? I genuinely don’t understand why people actually give a shit. Why? Why does it even matter? Explain why we need to do it your way? Why doesn’t everybody else say it our way? We say trunk while the English say boot but I don’t constantly see posts about why we don’t call it a boot. Why? Why is the pronunciation of one letter so confounding for people?
All letters in the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this alphabet follow rhe same pattern. For consonants, it’s the sound the letter makes+a vowel sound (and a few have it thr other way around). Vowels just make their sound. only weirdo is double-u, which never got a proper name. Shoulda been “w-uh” or “woo” or “aw” or something. Too late now though 🥲 I didn’t realize this. It’s time the rest of the world conforms. Next we need to dump this metric thingy, I mean come on. I’m Canadian and I can’t stand Zed. I can’t stand that it doesn’t rhyme with the ABC song (I have kids), and I can’t stand how it’ll practically be used as a part of national identity. Canadians are very big at being prideful about nonsense that has no point other than to differentiate us from Americans. I find it very insecure.
I say zee instead of zed, i say aluminum instead of aluminium, i say trash can instead of rubbish bin. Sidewalk instead of pavement. I’m Canadian and I say zee, or else the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this ending of the alphabet song doesn’t rhyme. People tried to correct me to zed and I’m like nah nah nah. I was born and raised in the UK where “zed” is used. I moved to Canada and even though “zed” is considered the “norm” for Canadian English, a lot of Canadians (especially those who don’t think they’re British) say “zee” – in fact even I say “zee” now instead of “zed” because it feels more natural to how that letter sounds in words. US was colonized by the British, but we got better at breaking shit than they did, which resulted in us breaking them so they’d leave…then because we got so excited about our skills at breaking shit, we looked for more stuff to break…Z was one of those things..
Because we have this insane idea that we have to do everything differently and by default, that is better. Look at our measurement system! It’s ridiculous and embarrassing. Why don’t you call the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this letter B “bed” or C “ced”? Why do you have to break the theme by calling Z “zed”? Clearly Brits are the human equivalent of these. more repliesI give up when things don’t go as planned. Let me explain. I try to make my life better by setting small goals, like being grateful every day, getting enough sleep, writing journals, or meditating regularly. I take things step by step because it’s easier for me. At first, things usually go well, and I feel good after just a few days. But whenever something bad happens or I have a tough day, I stop doing these things, and I’m back to where I started. This has been happening for a long time now. At first, I feel great, but then something goes wrong, and I give up. You haven’t been the same kinda person all your life, you’ve been changing from time to time. How did you think those change happened?
Falling off track is normal when establishing a new routine. It’s easy to get discouraged if you consider the Awesome Gasparilla Bowl Champions 2024 For Fan Florida Gators 33 – 08 shirt Apart from…,I will love this days when you slack off a failure, instead of accepting them as part of the journey. Based on your post, it sounds like you struggle with perfectionism. If you have a bad day or a bad week, just pick up where you left off the following day. Even if you give up, you can always try again tomorrow. There are no rules. I know some people like to establish a routine for the results they’re hoping to achieve in the future, but I find it a lot more motivating and encouraging to focus on the process instead. That way, I don’t become obsessed with measuring my progress, which becomes stressful and leads to burnout.
