When you have found a new job, accepted it, and have confirmation of your acceptance, you give notice. It’s not a discussion, it’s notice. You should give a written resignation that says “This memorandum is notice of my resignation effective .” Don’t editorialize, list grievances, or anything else – the Awesome duran Anniversary Kennedy Space Center July 16 2019 T-Shirt in contrast I will get this only thing they need to know is that you are leaving and when your last day will be. It’s polite and customary to give two weeks notice, but not required. If the employer acts in a hostile fashion, simply make the resignation effective immediately. In the interval between giving notice and your final day, do things which aid in handing off work and projects to whoever will take them on. If there are some outstanding tasks you can clear up, do those. The objective is to make the transition as smooth and easy as possible for your co-workers. On the final day, make sure that you drop off any company equipment, keys, and badges to your manager. Under no circumstances should you keep any information that belongs to the company — no files, data, contacts, nothing.

There’s no reason you have to give him any notice at all unless you just want the last paycheck. He’s probably going to try to short you on it anyway Trying to make your current Boss to match or give you a better offer is also some of the worst ideas, if you are leaving just leave don’t play money games. whats ur profession sir, thats so demanding to make people cry when u leave? but it always depends if u are good at what u do to get recognition. 58 more repliesMy stupid manager had the same approach when I quit. When I sent the resignation document, signed, he texted me immediately and he said that I will regret this. For the next two months, he never spoke to me again. I couldn’t be happier. Oh and out of 4 templates for reference letters, he just filled a form which mentioned my start and end date and what my job position was about for the last 3 years. Nothing about me. I hate the modern workplace. Sounds about like what I experienced. They are so indignant that we ask for fair wages that the immediate reaction is anger. I put in my notice and my lead was like “cool, thanks.” Nothing. I am in a field with a shortage of staff too. They always need people. A few days later she sends me a follow request on Instagram. Lol, no thanks. What’s up with bosses like this thinking the silent treatment is a punishment? I worked for a guy (well, family) kinda like this. Tons of issues with the job. The raises were for a few cents each time, and for as much as they claimed to depend on and appreciate me as one of their longest-remaining employees there simply were no benefits or room to grow. They said they had a position for me that was more aligned with my interest in writing, with more pay for the new tasks, and then their son got brought on to do it instead and they never mentioned it again. The son would go on to laugh in my face when I asked about health insurance and other benefits during a pointless meeting, then went on with his whole “Oh you’re so reliable (therefore you’ll be getting more work lol)” speech. We had a lot of such meetings, both team and one-on-one, which they wanted us to clock out during so we could listen to the dad ramble for free ig. This ended up as a bit of a rant. Anyway, when I put in my notice it was the cold shoulder from the dad, which suited me fine and actually made my remaining time there more pleasant. Was the pouty silent treatment supposed to make me feel bad and reconsider leaving? Because it didn’t.
