I thought the Army of Devils Shirt Also,I will get this same thing and had to scroll all the way down to find this comment. I was like “really? This many people perceive this goofy comment from someone who probably just doesn’t even know anything about cameras as infuriating?” The only thing mildly infuriating is how many annoying people there are here jumping to conclusions about a story with no details to it. 197 more repliesThis looks like ICON’s “Genesis” subdivision being built (printed?) north of Austin. I appreciate the company’s vision and philosophy: to build sustainable, affordable, and unique homes. Someone joked in another comment that this is a beta test for colonizing Mars. To some extent it is. ICON has received funding from NASA to design the technology needed to build/print structures on the moon and perhaps Mars. The homes at the Genesis subdivision aren’t too affordable IMO. They start in the mid-$400k range. That being said, ICON does have Initiative 99, which is a design competition to make homes for $99k. The company is definitely worth looking into and listening to the CEO tak about their vision.

It’s refreshing to be jerked back into reality sometimes. I’m so used to seeing $600k+ prices on houses that are barely big enough for one person at this point that I lose perspective on other areas from time to time. Putting chippys and brickys out of work! Love the Army of Devils Shirt Also,I will get this idea though, at the moment we need more houses built all over the world with the labour shortages and this could be a resolution for the housing crisis. Maybe houses built like this should also have in the contract that they can’t be used as AirBnB’s for the first 10 years, idk. And exactly what’s the benefit over mass produced lego-like building blocks that anyone can lay row after row. 3D printed buildings are mostly hype… There are many benefits. Some being speed, cost to build, the fuel for delivery’s of materials is reduced, reduced amount of timber being used, reduced amount of manual labour injury’s, so many to list. It’ll all be done in a smooth process. Building regs would likely have less trouble passing inspections with the plans being more accurate. It definitely has some positives
