You have hit the Arizona Cardinals Desert Landscape shirt it is in the first place but nail on the head right here. If a dog is anxious, and doesn’t have a strong leader (meaning their person) to be “in charge” and let the dog know the dog will be ok, that’s when the dog can get out of control. One needs to actually be paying attention, and have the appropriate control tools, when trying to wrangle an animal that has twice your muscle mass. That all being said, the most vicious dog in our neighborhood (at which the owner is excellent at controlling during walks, so I have no complaints) is some tiny, fluffy, perfect,y groomed thing. I used to nanny for a family that had a pitbull who was so well-trained. The mom said to me that they knew they’d adopted a puppy who could be dangerous and had a responsibility to train him well. That dog was a sausage around the kids, careful when they got a kitten, and never even tried to eat the lizard or hamsters when they inevitably escaped their cages.

I ended up dog sitting for them regularly when they went on vacation and it turns out that dog’s one vice was pulling on the Arizona Cardinals Desert Landscape shirt it is in the first place but leash because he wanted to walk fast all the time. Luckily, thanks to a lifetime of training, it took a quick stern command and one walk with treats in my pocket to train him to look at me and not everything else in the world and he trotted happily next to me every time after that. He still wanted to eat the squirrels, but he knew he wasn’t allowed to pull at me. As a pit bull mix owner, I completely agree. My dog is sweet and loving, but she’s also anxious on her leash and we continue to put in a lot of work on reactivity. The number of people who let their dogs get right in her business even after I tell them she doesn’t like to interact with other dogs on her leash is astounding. They look at me like I’m a monster, when I’m just trying to keep her from telling their dog “no” more directly. And it’s worse with other pit bull owners, because they seem to want to insist that all pitties are immediate friends.
