If we aren’t in an emergency both me and my boss could care less when you get your work done. Go see a movie, go out to lunch. Be there when I need you and why would I care what you do otherwise. I took a Friday off once, worked through the anxiety has many faces anxiety faces T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this weekend, and Monday my boss asked me why I was wasting time on work days mowing my lawn instead of working. So yeah, they can and will pay on you. To this day I have no idea how my boss knew I was doing yard work. Those managers, who had always regarded WFH as some kind of work-avoidance scam, realised that digital technology was just the ticket for keeping an eye on their newly remote subordinates. It would make sure that they weren’t idly browsing Pinterest, or bidding on eBay, or doing private emails, or a thousand other unproductive things, on the company’s dime. Isn’t the easy solution to just get another computer (or the phone that everybody has) to check social media, browse eBay, etc?

I’m in IT security, I honestly don’t care if I’m watch, I take my dog on a walk, go to get coffee from the anxiety has many faces anxiety faces T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this kitchen, take a few minutes away to start cooking something etc. My work still gets done in a timely manner and I always respond to DMs and emails quickly. Sometimes when there’s nothing goin on I’ll throw a tv show on, but my work always gets done before the deadline. I will sometimes open an excel sheet and go in to a cell and place a heavy object on spacebar so i dont go idle in Teams. Can this be tracked? Its only for like a half hour here and there “ nobody heard of zoom”. Oh there were definitely companies using zoom long before the pandemic. I’ve been wfh since 2016 and we had at least one daily zoom meeting I oversee multiple software teams. I don’t get any sort of metrics. I think Teams sends the weekly e-mail but I’ve never looked at it and most of my peers aren’t even aware of it. I spend 90% of my day in meetings, while I’m doing BS around the house like cooking or folding laundry. WFH hasn’t made any sort of negative dent in productivity. My only ask is that when I chat you between 9 and 4 you get back to me within minutes unless you’ve let the team know you’ll be afk for a while.
