This gets reposted every 6 months. It’s from an old UC sexual assault awareness campaign from over 10 years ago that got pulled a month after its release. This was around 2012. Growing up (I’m a guy) I always considered myself a feminist/ally, but then this wave of feminism hit and it kinda shattered my perspective sadly. I’ve since come back around, but it’s taken some time. The woman is always the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt Furthermore, I will do this victim, the one that is incapable of making her own decisions, the one that is helpless in every situation that she didn’t want to be in… I think under the law, neither of them are capable of giving consent so neither would be charged with anything. My girlfriend pulled me, instead of the other way around. I couldn’t consent aswell. I might even consider it rape because she took off my condom and exposed me to potential std’s or a child. She was drunk, I was drunk. She’s even older than I am gross. And they lived happily ever after. I always hated these ads, the entire purpose of them was to make victims look stupid and like they’re dramatic and making things up. It worked too, they successfully made “was he drunk?” A defense for assault The person who should be charged with rape is this poster’s graphic designer for molesting us with this poster which was clearly designed while drunk. This makes no sense, if I drink and drive I am committing a crime, but if being drunk exhume me from responsibility, why the double standard?

In theory the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt Furthermore, I will do this rape law should be applied equally regardless of gender. If Jake was drunk he was also unable to give consent. Having said that I have been drunk, woken up with a chick I would never have slept with sober and never considered that I was raped; was I wrong? I guess you have to consider many other factors in something that has a lot of nuance. Who was buying the drinks? Did either party use alcohol as a tool to get the other into bed? Was there violence. Stuff like this should never be reduced to a dumb poster with soundbites. These were posted everywhere on Navy bases, zero tolerance and don’t be that guy kind of messages. Like the idea but yeah consent is a two way street If Josie can’t consent because she is drunk and decides to drive home and gets pulled over, can she give consent to the cops? Cops ask you for all kinds of consent at a dui traffic stop. If you can’t consent when you are drunk, how can you consent to the cops?
Double standard? Yes. But I think y’all are reading it wrong. This is still applicable today, as a cautionary tale to men. Don’t bang a drunk chick because you might be falsely convicted of rape. Why wasn’t Jake the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt Furthermore, I will do this one who got raped if he was also drunk? I’m convinced the people making this aren’t simply brainwashed, they have to have an extremely low iq. No, “they” do not still make these, and the school that did actually haven’t made these in nearly 20 years. This poster was absolutely problematic, but it’s still recycled on the internet for engagement even though it hasn’t been used since 2008. Despite the fact obvious dumb double standard, if this ad is from the US there have been tons of legal precedent that drunk people can consent, often to such an unfortunate degree that real victims have been let down by our legal system.

Description for Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt

All these replies and OP only responds to the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this person saying it’s a lie. Work or yourself and expand your social circles. There are people who are doomed to be lonely if they don’t make changes, but not in general. My favorite comments here are all positive and hopeful but you don’t know that. I can respond to whatever I want. I appreciate your comment too. If it was purely a numbers game, then people in urban areas would be way more likely to to find love than people in rural areas, and that’s not how it works. I think the assumption is that eventually they’ll lower their standards so far that finding someone (whether or not they should be with that person) is inevitable. Yeah, doesn’t happen for everybody. Especially if they aren’t trying. My mother was single for the last 25 years of her life. It’s more likely to happen than not. Now, the question of will it be a loving and healthy relationship that lasts for many years is iffy. But the odds of finding someone for some significant period of time is in your favor if you’re putting in some genuine effort. Obviously if you literally never leave your home your chances go down and this is becoming increasingly more possible given remote work positions, but most people aren’t in that boat. It’s not really about being sure, it’s just trying to encourage people to not fall into a hole of self pity and further hurt their chances of finding someone. Finding someone can be difficult, but if you just give up then you’ll always run that risk of missing out on a lot of opportunities. Life isn’t a race, there really isn’t a universal finish line, so take things at your own pace. Unless you intentionally stay stagnant, your life is always changing It’s just a platitude similar to “god has a plan for everyone” etc., just a statement made to pacify someone who doesn’t understand why things are going wrong. You get what you work for, for some it’s easier than others, but that’s a truth for most things in life. You can’t be passive about it, if you want it you have to work towards that goal or it will just remain a dream. No one is owed a relationship or love.
Also I don’t actually know that many people above 50 who never found love in their lives. Even if it didn’t last forever it seems like most people find it at some point. it’s called toxic positivity (and it’s because people are uncomfortable with other’s sadness and will force it away by lying or empty words) According to a 2020 study by the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this Pew Research Center, 35% of unmarried adults in the United States have never been in a committed romantic relationship. This means that the remaining 65% of unmarried adults have been in at least one committed relationship. Of the 35% included those who avoided relationships on purpose. Meaning you have an even higher likelihood of finding someone eventually.
They say it to relieve themselves of having to do something about someone else’s problem all the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this while being seemingly empathic. It’s okay to give someone hope, it’s called humanity. Truth is, a relationship won’t just fall in your lap, it takes effort. They’re not sure, nobody is. That’s something we tell ourselves in order to make the devastating truth of reality hurt just a little, tiny bit less. Yes, it is technically all completely random, and yes, there’s a possibility that a person who struggles to find love won’t ever find it. However, there is also an equal amount of possibility that this hypothetical person will – Simply due to the sheer amount of people there are on this planet and the law of truly large numbers. The problem with people is that we think love is something to get, while love is something you are a source of, or become. With time you’ll experience that ‘true love’ comes from the inside, while ‘being in love’ is temporary as the source appears to come from the outside.
Love is not something to seek, what you’re seeking for is pleasure, and there’s nothing wrong with that but it’s important to know the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this difference, love usually comes after pleasure. Breathing could become more intense than a love affair if you do it consciously enough. You only get by what you give in the game of love! Become the source of the love you’re looking for and watch how your life changes. Yup. I’ve been single 10 years. Decided to work on myself and wait for something healthy. Now, I have realized that being single IS healthy. I probably will never date again. I don’t know if I would define it as “random.” You’re likely to meet people with common interests in values if you go to events where likeminded people will be. Dating apps have search filters & algorithms.
Nothing is for certain but you can increase your chances of meeting someone by being social, having dating app profiles, and trying to leverage or strengthen qualities typically considered attractive. It is definitely exhausting. If it’s possible to also work on self-love at the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this same time, this can help you be more resilient as a single person, and ultimately make you a better partner if you meet someone. I met my husband on Bumble, fwiw. We established that we shared values & interests and a similar sense of humor in the first few conversations. Either because they found a partner so they assume it’ll happen to other people too, or because they don’t actually believe it, they’re just saying it because it makes them uncomfortable to sit with the fact that some people really want a partner and never get to have one. Because the opposite belief (“There’s a very good chance of it never happening.”) is often a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Confidence and belief in yourself is a major factor in whether you’ll end up in relationships (also whether you’ll end up in good ones). Focusing on the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this negative here is purely unproductive, and people try to stop it with ultra-positive thinking (which doesn’t really work for pessimistic thinkers). Personally, I go with “all I can do is do my best and see what happens” and “being happy with my life alone means I have a life that is more appealing to share.” It’s not completely random, if you want to you will. It’s just how society works. It’s also a numbers game cuz all you need is one. That’s just something you tell them to make them feel better & get them to shut up.if you want to find love go to where love is. I know plenty of old lonely folk who never been married, or who were only married for a while and were financially devastated because of it. My coworker was homeless for 5 years because his ex wife took his house, and yes he was working the entire time he was homeless. Shit’s fucked. people say that to make you feel better or at least they think it’s going to make you feel hopeful. i have seen plenty of people who have never found love. my grandma wanted to see a place. but she died before she could see it. the point i’m trying to make is that everyone has some unfulfillments in life. It’s not completely random otherwise you wouldn’t have to do anything to find it. I don’t think that sentiment is genuinely meant as its fate, just let it happen. If you want it, and put an effort in finding it, there’s no reason you shouldn’t, even if short-lived.
If you don’t try then obviously you’ll never find someone. But as time goes on, as you work on yourself, you should find love somewhere. But, there are also 100% cases in which people say it just to make others feel better. Though, with tempered expectations, a willingness to be open and work on yourself when needed, you can certainly find it. BC, the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this universe. It just is like that what’s meant for you will come to you when the time is correct. We all came here with pre-planned lessons we agreed to learn and be part of. If relationship is meant for you, it’ll find you! I truly believe that what’s meant for you will always find its way to you, no matter how lost you feel, and vice versa, you will never be able to hold on to something that’s not meant for you, no matter how hard you try. People who ‘struggle’ to find love have internalised the desire to be loved as something they must ‘achieve’. In reality being loved is something you have very little control over. One can increase the chances of meeting people but you are unlikely to be successful if someone suspects you’re trying to force the issue.
I believe there’s a decent chance that you’ll find love. People find it unexpected places. I don’t think it’s a guaranteed fact though. Idk but as I got older I discovered that love is more like a choice. I found a wonderful person that I have decided to love and be with. “Falling in love” for me is not like a switch that turns on when you meet someone, it’s something that develops over time with trust and I made the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this conscious decision to love her because we get along very well, we are physically attracted to each other and the things that bother us about each other we talk about and work out with each other. Our long term goals also align as well. Maybe I was lucky but it took me until I was 45 to get to where I am now.
There are 8 billion people in the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this world. There’s a better chance of you finding someone than not. To think you’ll never find anyone is simply throwing a pity party to self sabotage, or just lazy. The people who I find saying these types of things either isolate themselves, have unrealistic expectations, or can’t be bothered to work on themselves. They’re romantically successful people who have had a string of relationships and break ups till they met someone and settled. They assume that anyone who isn’t able to follow that pattern has something wrong with them and they will proceed to insert standard Reddit self improvement package. Attend fitness classes and woodworking shops ad nauseum until you meet that special someone.
The blunt truth is, if you’re asking on Reddit you’re probably not in a place to start a relationship. You won’t have a healthy social circle of potential partners or be having lots of fun. You’ll be sad, lonely and frustrated in your room. You may be in cushy modern society, but you’re still in the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this world. And the world is random and cruel. None of us are promised anything. Some people will find love and then have horrific divorces. Some will have a boring but stable marriage. Some will be promiscuous superstars and sleep with whoever they want. Some will die alone never having known the touch of another human. Stop getting angry at Redditors for not sympathising with your frustration. Stop asking on Reddit for the same lame advice. Accept your lot in life and do the best you can with what you’ve got. Focus on health and wealth. Don’t let yourself go. Work hard. Go to therapy. I’m sorry these things are happening to you.
We aren’t. However, a lot of the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this people boo-hoo blubbing that they’re going to die alone are too young to have any evidence to back up their claim that there’s a “good chance of it never happening.” When someone is 75 and says they’re going to die alone, I’ll believe them. When someone is an age that includes the words “thirty,” “twenty,” or “teen,” I’m going to tell them to shut the fuck up and be patient. They’re not sure. That being said, it only looks harder when you get older because it filters out true negatives. But the seeming ease in youth is just a lot of false positives; finding true positives was never easier. But that doesn’t feel good, because all we’re hoping for is a true positive. When they could still be with their false positives. Or maybe they’re dead.
I believe the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this same. Why people are so certain? The “younger” (talking about normal age ranges, meaning not a child) I am, the prettier and the best I am and all. So, how can I expect to find love the older, uglier, worse I get? I’ve tried love it doesn’t work for me. Tried hard with every earth sign man I’ve met and it’s not happening. Sometimes I wonder if god hates me. We live in a world where the predominant expectation is to be coupled. The social pressure to “commit” to someone, in whatever way, is immense. I think people assume that everyone will fold to the pressure at some point and pretend it’s love even when it isn’t It’s more so the chance of not finding anyone is super low. I like to think of it as gambling. Hardly ever has a perfect outcome but the out come is there none the less.
Depends on who is saying that to you. People in relationships will say “you’ll find love someday” people who are single and struggling, will say something completely different. But in general its a deflection statement, meaning they don’t want to hear about it anymore. I think one of the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this issues is that we convince single people they need to learn to love being single, or saying you don’t need another person in your life to be happy. But why are so many people in relationships? Why isn’t being single the end goal for people? The realistic expectation is that statistically you will find someone, but your chances go up or down depending on your lifestyle. I think a lot of it is conditioning through the media. So many stories end up with people together. It is almost viewed as the natural end state to achieve resolution and completion on the journey of life. If something lacks that it is often seen as tragic or depressing.
I just picture The Office following Jim longing for Pam. Instead she marries Roy despite her feelings. Jim can not get over it, botches his chance with Karen and the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this show ends with him sitting alone at home after another shift at a dead end job he hates watching the woman he loves be with someone else. My guess is most people would reject that because “they belong together” and we want life to have a sense of fairness rather than reality. That being millions of people are lonely and never find meaningful connections in life. If you strive to give yourself redeeming qualities while filtering out the toxicity im pretty sure itll solve itself It’s sorta like that thing where acknowledging that you have a mental illness is the first step to treatment. Realizing that you are in a position where you will likely not find love is the first step to improving your situation, rather than being in constant denial.
Also, from a real statistical perspective, you probably will find love. Humanity would quite literally go extinct if a majority of people did not find someone. I’m 45, still single. My standards have gotten so high, I honestly don’t think anybody can meet them at this point. And I’m okay with that. I would rather be alone than settle for less than perfect for me. (That’s perfect FOR ME, mind. Not perfect. Because nobody is perfect, but a perfect complement might actually exist.) Im actually struggling to find love if that helps. And I look at the Ant Ox The Memorial Day support The Troops Buffalo American Flag shirt and I will buy this world and find that I don’t have features that other people have which makes them lovable (It also it could be because I’m ugly). This thread is so funny. Here is a quote. “161 million females and 156.1 million males in the US.” People are just going to be single and not find love.
