My sister has an extremely high pain tolerance. One time she broke her arm, but the Andrei Vasilevskiy Big Cat Like Reflexes Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this doctor assumed it was a torn muscle and prescribed physiotherapy because ‘she wasn’t in enough pain for it to be broken’. The physiotherapist ended up diagnosing the broken arm. Before I had my knee surgery I had fought the Army constantly saying that my knee was constantly hurting when I walked, came out of place at times, and generally made my time a living hell. They usually just gave me some ibuprofen, or told me to get over it. When I got out, the first thing I did was go to the VA and try to get it fixed. This is an actual conversation that I had with my VA doctor. “Doc, my knee has been hurting me since I got messed up in Afghanistan” “When was that?” “2018, and it’s gotten worse. I’ve had instances where it locked up while I’m driving. It’s kinda scary because it’s my right knee. The leg I use to drive and…” “Yes…do you smoke?” “Yeah, I have been since 2018…but like I was saying. It’s scaring me because I don’t want it to lock up on the accelerator. I could loose control of my vehicle” (Turns computer screen to me) “and this is what your lungs will look like if you don’t quit smoking”

I later had to request getting to see a specialist for my knee from a different doctor, and we found out that my ACL had been completely destroyed, and that’s what was causing all of my issues for almost 4 years. Ugh. This resonated with me. I heard all sorts of dumb stuff when I was trying to get help for my endometriosis. When I was 20, my doctor told me to try Motrin and come back in 3 months – I had been in pain since I was 12! When I was 22, another doctor urged me to try to get pregnant soon in case it could alleviate my symptoms. When I was 29, a doctor suggested that I needed a sex therapist indicating that my pain was psychological. The hoops they will jump through before actually doing their job. I was told I was sensitive, it’s a 1 time thing, you are constipated, “probably one of those women who faint like in the Andrei Vasilevskiy Big Cat Like Reflexes Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this movies.”, 1 of them blamed it on my skinny jeans. I literally didn’t even believe it after waling up from surgery. I had started to believe it was in my head. I (38f) went to the after hours clinic for my PCP’s practice foe excruciating ear pain not knowing she was one if the 2 doctors there. I was told I could wait to see her specifically but they didn’t know how long the wait would be. I decided to just see the other Dr. as I was next in line for him & I’d had nothing but good experiances with other Drs at that practice. After looking in my ear and saying there was no infection, he turns to look at my chart & says “what are you doing to lose weight?” I was LIVID! I looked him in the eye and said “I’m here for my EAR, not my weight. You can see in my chart that I REGULARLY see Dr. X, as I have been for YEARS so you can see our plan.” I complained to my PCP the next day & she made a note that he was NEVER to see me again. If I had known he was going to be an asshole I would have waited to see my PCP. (He was also CLEARLY overweight so I wss tempted to say something rude & snarky like “Oh! I don’t have a plan… what plan are YOU using to lose weight or is that just a beer gut?”)
