A full break simply won’t heal. It would mend much slower than one of your limbs, and a horse can’t stay off of its legs for that long. Blood doesn’t pump through a horse’s legs unless the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this horse is up and moving. Also, a horse can’t lie down for very long because if it does, its weight will crush it. They can take naps laying down, but they’re never for very long. Much of the time they take cat naps on their feet. (Horse naps?) So when any part of its leg is broken, there’s no way the horse can lie down for the weeks it takes to heal, and there’s no way to let it walk around so the blood will circulate. So they’re doomed. I’ve always thought horses are very strong, impenetrable animals, like a crocodile or something. Maybe due to the term “horsepower”
American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt: Show Your Love with Style
I love them too. Lived on a horse farm with Anglo Arabs and through a deal for 10 years. They’re a lot of work though. The more I learned about them the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this more I wanted to learn. One fun fact is that a horse can gallop to its death, and still gallop while it’s dying. The action of the horse’s legs keeps its heart pumping, and when the horse stops running, it will drop dead. So in these movies when you see the horse running and running for miles on end, it’s just not realistic. I had a cat who was attacked by a dog, her back left leg had to be amputated, she would not rest and eventually she caused more damage to the tissue and herself, she had to be put down to prevent further suffering bless her. animals can be repaired like humans but animals dont understand to be still and rest while they heal even if you bring them food water and carry them to and from their designated potty area.
Horses are biologically designed for movement. While you can immobilize them long enough for a bone to heal it very often causes secondary issues like colic, laminitis, stomach ulcers, and undue stress. Unless it’s a small break or a non load bearing bone it’s often more ethical to the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this animal to euthanize as opposed to putting them through a long, painful, and psychologically miserable recovery. Horses need to ambulate for proper circulation. People can be on their backs for a while to recuperate – horses just don’t work that way. There are some times when a horse can have surgery, and perhaps have rods/screws inserted, depending on the break, but there are also breaks that likely wouldn’t heal properly. There’s also the possibility that the surgery could cause other problems (laminitis, I’m looking at you, you horrible condition).

There’s a whole post on Reddit somewhere of a vet describing how horses are literally trying to die all the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this time. All the humane euth comments are unfortunately correct. Just wanted to add that surgery might require blood transfusions as well and horses have way more blood types than humans with no universal donors. And mix matching blood types can cause a systemic allergic reaction. There’s way more vet med details like that that make rods, slings and comas less ideal as the prognosis and overall remaining quality of life is not good before factoring in how expensive long term care could be. You technically can but it’s basically just incredibly difficult to keep a horse immobile for the length of time it would take for an injury like that to heal without causing them significant other health issues. A big part of it is how a horses circulatory system works. They need to keep their legs moving to stop blood pooling in then which is impossible while a serious break is healing.
It’s the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this sheer weight. If a horse breaks his back leg it might be healed, but a front break is impossible. The weight of the shoulders, neck, head and front of the body are on the front legs. The only horse I ever heard of that had any luck with a front break was Spanish Riddle, back in the 70s. The removed his ankle & hoof and replaced it with a steel one attached to the cannon bone. He was led around at a walk for the rest of his life. When a horse breaks their leg, it’s like the chalk breaking by something heavy pushing the top of chalk lengthwise into the ground, where chips come off. I have a 32” mini horse. My other mare kicked her Dec 1 and it’s a hip socket fracture. Her size allowed the vet to get the X-rays without anesthesia.
There isn’t much precedence with this because people typically put horses to sleep because likely they can’t be immobilized for the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this time it takes. The inflammation is less now and will start laser therapy. I have a sling that I use to suspend her just to give her good leg a rest Tinkerbell tax Oh man I hope she heals up ok. I’m sure it helps that she’s a mini, it would probably be a LOT more difficult with a full sized horse If it were a large horse, I’d have euthanized no question. She’s luckily only maybe 250lbs and she seemed to adapt to being in her stall. Realistically I didn’t think we would be as far along as we are – I figured she would tell me when she is done. The main challenge with putting metal rods in a horse’s leg after a break is the sheer weight and structure of the animal. Unlike humans, horses rely heavily on their legs for balance, movement, and support. Adding metal rods could potentially disrupt the delicate balance and natural movement of the horse, leading to complications like lameness or further injury. Additionally, the forces exerted on a horse’s legs during movement are far greater than those experienced by humans, making it more difficult for surgical interventions to be successful. While advances in veterinary medicine continue to explore new treatments, the complexities of repairing a horse’s leg remain a significant hurdle to overcome.
Their diaphragms aren’t as strong because they use the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this mass of their organs to inhale and exhale. They are super prone to getting pneumonia and often don’t recover. Veterinarian here. For certain types of fractures we do. But for long bone fractures the forces applied and horses inability to be three legged lame – use their other three legs to compensate for the bad one – lie dogs and cats do make stabilization impossible. If we could suspend the horse for 6 to 8 weeks and not experience severe muscle atrophy, pressure sores, GI disturbances, ect. maybe but as of today, no such system exists. It’s not done because in order to heal a load bearing bone, you have to keep the load off it. There’s no practical or humane way to stop a horse from trying to stand or allowing it to stand without weight bearing on the broken limb. I’ve never heard a horse’s leg break and never want to but I’ve talked to vets who have and they say it’s literally like a gunshot and it’s completely unmistakable.
For whatever reason horses are professionals at getting injured and when I do it’s very often very serious and very expensive. Can’t talk about horses but cows. The rule of thumb is that after 6 months of age you can’t fix a broken leg anymore. You don’t even have to try the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this hind legs, because of the anatomy you can’t really put a cast on that at that age. We’ve had two break a front leg. One with 7 months and it luckily healed, but it didn’t grow back together the same as it was before, which is fine at the moment, she’s pregnant with her first calf and doesn’t have any issues, but I will almost certainly cause problems in the long run. The second one was 16 months old and we also tried with her but sadly the leg didn’t grow back together and she had to be put down.
The main problem is the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this will to live. Having a cast on is a big obstacle for the animal, especially cause they don’t understand what it is and why it’s there. It makes everything in their life a lot harder, simple things like walking, laying down and getting up are all of a sudden real challenges. It can very much happen that they give up. Barely eat/drink, and just in general don’t show a will to live. It’s hard to explain but quite obvious when you see it. And in this situation you have to put them down. No matter how the healing process is going, if they get to that point the only kind thing you can do is put them to sleep, as sad as it is. I talked to an equestrian vet about this at a wedding. She said that racehorses 1) love to run and 2) are prey animals, and once they break a leg they “lose their will to live.” She said that she’s seen people who tried to rehab them, but the horse is in so much pain that it’s unethical and almost cruel. Alright y’all, how do I disable notifications for this? I really do appreciate everyone pitching in but now it’s driving me nuts
A horse doesn’t heal bones like we do. Their bones stay in a state of broken permanently. Putting steel rods in will just mean it has the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this broken end of the bone still pressing on the metal that never heals. Almost all animals that heal broken bones are social animals that can be cared for by others of their kind. A horse can’t be brought food by other horses and their main defense is running away. Thus, they don’t have the ability to heal bones This isn’t quite right – horses can heal broken bones, just not their major leg bones. Have one now who broke a spint bone (small bone under the knee) and with rest and care it has healed. One thing I was told is that when horses come out of anesthesia they are disoriented and panic, thrashing around a little. The room is padded. The legs are so thin and fragile there is great risk of them reinjuring themselves.
The problem is their skeleton has to hold between 1100 and 1500 lbs and that weight is designed to be held across all 4 legs. Take 1 leg out and you just end up with compensatory injuries on the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this other legs. Also the horse won’t properly stay off the injured leg. Especially if there are other horses in the pen they will chase each other One reason is circulation. Horses have that big body on slim legs. The frog part of the hoof expands and contracts to help pump blood up those legs, so horses evolved to be moving around and walking. A horse in a sling is not only a very hard situation for the horse mentally, physically it is very harmful. Horses can’t lay down for very long or they will die. So you can put a metal bar on the leg, but the recovery period required is almost impossible. So it is very cruel.
I believe that the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this bones in a horse’s legs also don’t break like ours do, but they shatter or spiral meaning there will be far too many shards and pieces to be able to repair them. And that’s just the first step. After that theres horses going nuts in confinement. Dying if they lay down too long. Getting colicky or something from not moving around enough. Foot problems from weight not being distributed enough. Reinjuring due to panic. Horses are ridiculous animals when you think about it, and it’s hard to think about it but euthanizing is just more humane. I love my horse and if he broke his leg I’d be wailing why he was euthanised – it’s too difficult to get a horse to rest. Bad enough a dog when he’s had ACL repaired. That’s a nightmare when one lives on acreage and the dog can’t leave the house unless on a lead….. that was a nightmare few weeks When I was a teen our family had a Cobb horse. We rode her lots and she was a lovely lady. She was out in a shared paddock on the hangings with other horses, and an absolute dumbcunt of a woman decided to put her grotty tempered horse out with the group when it had its back hooves shod! So naturally dumbcunt’s horse bucked our horse in the shoulder for daring to be close to her. Someone heard the shrieking and went to see dumbcunt’s horse buck ours again. Our horse’s scapula and humerus were shattered. The stable owner was friendly with our family and our horse had been hers for years before we bought her, so she was also devastated that the injury happened, as she had been an amazing horse to ride. It was only because my dad made decent lawyer money that we could even consider surgery, which was eye wateringly costly. Most people would need to put the horse to sleep as money and recovery are huge.
So she had her full plate along with some other screws and a rod. Her recovery was miserable as she had to stand still in her stable for ages and ages. She had a big rubbery mat to help with the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this pain and medications. She lived many years more with our other horse who was also crippled due to pulling his back by stepping on a plastic bottle and spooking himself. She always had a limp afterwards but enjoyed grazing with the cows. She would hear our car and calls and speedily hobble-trot alongside us whinnying. But we got so many calls to the RSPCA about an injured horse. It wasn’t even funny. Good on the callers and I hope people keep reporting concerns with animal welfare, but my goodness could te RSPCA not make a record of which horse it could be? Take pictures?
She was finally put to sleep when she got old, and she lived a good life for a horse, but I absolutely don’t blame people for putting horses down for these injuries. It takes so much away from them to lose full use of their legs. The real reason is that horse cannot stand on the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this other legs 9 times out of 10 another leg will break or tear the muscles. Also insurance pays out for dead horse not a 3 legged horse so they put it down saying nothing you can do to fix it. Send us a check for my over insured horse please The same horse that at 3 had a tornado send a stopsign thru his right rear leg, basically amputated his hoof at the coffin joint. It can be done. I’ve seen it done twice now. Ours and a random person we met on the trails who already heard of our horse.
We can and do. My horse has two screws in his knee from an old fracture that has since fully recovered. Broken legs are now sometimes fixable with modern veterinary techniques. One was missing their front leg, another their back leg. They were running around and playing with their owners. I was scrolling through YouTube shorts after watching a few hoof cleaning videos and horses took over my recommended! Even on a person, having a metal rod in their leg to help healing really sucks. Even after it’s as close to healed as it’ll get (your leg never fully heals with a metal rod inside) every step is painful, you can feel that rod in ther. People can intellectually accept it and get used to the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this rod, even the best trained horses are still skitish, and supposing they could heal around the rod they’d be freaked out by it with every step they would take. On the off chance you manage to save their life, theyd be driven mad by being unable to escape the weird and painful feeling in their leg. We can, but it is just not considered to be worth the cost and suffering endured by the animal 99.99% of the time. While a horse can survive like this, it will probably never run again, and as that is the purpose for which we raise horses, such a horse has “outlived its usefulness” and is therefore put down. There are similarly torturous and expensive treatments for certain medical conditions in humans (chemotherapy being one example), but those are considered to be worth it as we value the life of a human differently from the life of a horse.
The short answer(s) are 1) horses do not respond well to the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this surgery needed and 2) cost. The cost of surgery and rehab for horses is incredibly expenses. Most horse owners either don’t have the money or do not want to spend that much. Horses have weak diaphragm muscles, it’s hard for them to do basic functions like breathing if they can’t walk. It’s very difficult for a horse to regain the ability to walk, it’s very expensive and if it was a race horse they will be “useless” after the recovery on the off chance that it survives Horses are two things. One is slow to heal, and the other is extremely stubborn. As a result, they need to be very tightly controlled for a very long time. A horse trying to heal a broken leg would likely be in cross ties, completely immobilized and in moderate to severe pain, for an entire year. It would truly be cruel to subject the horse to that. I saw a documentary a few years ago where they can now fix a broken leg on a horse and give it swimming therapy to heal.
For all the American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this “horse lovers” here I say euthanize them all. Except for amish farming, horses are nothing more than nuisance animals. We can’t eat them so unless we race them they are completely useless to the planet.
I just remember overhearing someone years ago saying that not everyone wants to be blessed, and I relate to that. I’ve heard that it’s from old times. Before modern medicine, if someone got sick, they could very likely die. Others said bless you as a wish for your return to health or for you to go to heaven if you die. It obviously can have many interpritations, some without any religious intentions. But in my American Pope Leo XIV May 8th 2025 Robert Francis Prevost Shirt so you should to go to store and get this perspective, it’s more of a reminder of my forced Catholic upbringing, which, without going into crazy details, was somewhat traumatic. right? it was forced by my religious family not really more like they said it was respectful to say it. but for some reason I think it’s something that everyone says?? apparently not…
