I am curious though because we see a lot of posts on here about terrible stays, bed bugs dirty showers, hosts walking in, lack of cleanliness, cameras etc. If these places are getting less than three star reviews then these listings would be suspended and not available if what you say actually applies. How is it that these places are still available? ABNB probably has 1000 data scientists on staff. You think they don’t understand how their own rating system works and its implications? Preposterous. Being permanently suspended for having 4.3/5 stars doesn’t sound remotely reasonable. That’s an 86% or at lease a B according to most (US) scholastic measures. Airbnb is outrageous. I get that what you’re saying is what’s happening. However, in real life on a 5 star scale, a 3 is average and should be more in line of what’s expected. 4 stars would be above average and 5 would be amazing. The “problem” is that guests don’t want to book a 3 star place because they feel that’s shitty instead of average.

I agree that in the Aly and Aj I’ve got the blues shirt moreover I will buy this rest of the world that is the way the rating system should work. That is why Airbnb is such an incredibly unfair system for both guests and hosts. It is just that hosts tend to understand the rating system better and rate guests accordingly, while many guests do not understand how the rating system affects hosts and so unwittingly negatively impact the host beyond what was intended. Booking.com is the same. Tripadvisor is the same. Your work review is the same. 5/5 or 10/10 means it met expectations, anything less is bad. It’s human nature for people who host to walk into your house and think how they would do everything differently. I recently had a host/guest who decided to take apart the couch, flip it over, and then complain the black underlayment was missing. That’s the kind of weird shit host/guests do. They left 3 stars.
