I had an interview once where before it started they instructed me to respond in short direct answers only, no extra. Ok, I did. That being said, if you really just need a job, then take all the advice about how to change. Then keep applying for jobs and being yourself until you find a place that loves you for you. To be honest, I don’t think being bubbly is the issue. When I think bubbly, I think of very friendly and outgoing and that’s typically not an issue in the workplace. I think the person used the phrasing “too enthusiastic” as a way to maybe soften the criticism/sugar coat. This situation reminds of a lot of being an undergraduate student and talking to people pursuing the medical field. You ask a lot of them “what do you like to do for fun/in your free time?” and they’ll say well “I work in the hospital, I shadow physicians, etc.” That clearly shows they’re passionate about the field, but it also shows they don’t really do anything outside of school. So, they made their whole personality about their future goal/occupation and that’s all they talk about. In a way, giving that trivia and things like that might seem relevant because you’re applying to a job, but it can also make you seem one dimensional as a candidate if your entire life appears revolves around that. I think maybe the bubbly attitude only amplifies those qualities because then it makes you seem really eager.
