I cannot see a specialist out of state without prior authorization every single time. It’s 2+ hours to get to the specialist in question. I just happened to have previously gone to the one out of state, not in state. I also have to pay the full cost of the visit until I hit my deductible for the year. Also because of my one condition I might need to see multiple specialists and unless it is labeled preventative care or a law requires it to be free, I have to pay that full visit cost upfront. Now, these visits that are not considered preventative actually make sure that nothing is occurring that is actually a warning sign. I want universal healthcare. I want health insurance to be mandated as not for profit. We should not have health insurance tied to employment. It’s awful. No one my age or younger (I’m 34) with any chronic condition that has no cure, has any hope of retiring until they’re eligible for Medicare. Of course the full retirement age is 67 and Medicare is 65 for us, so hopefully we can either afford 2 years without social security or we have good enough health to keep working. I doubt it will stay those ages by the time I’m 65 or 67. I thank God I have STD and LTD insurance through my job, but if I didn’t get it on a group plan, I would not be able to afford it. We need more affordable care, housing, transit, education, etc. Everything being for-profit is how health insurance and the healthcare industry got SUPER screwed up.

Unfortunately they already have that going on. People already have to wait weeks to months to see the specialist, to have a surgery performed, or even to get physical therapy going (which they need immediately).

This can be seen over and over and over again in American politics. It’s been known that Social Security barely pays enough to our seniors, and the younger generations won’t even receive it but still have to pay into it. Then ask yourself why the federal government took out trillions from social security to fund other government programs 1.7 Trillion missing from Social Security The “fear” is the redistribution of wealth. It’s by very nature unfair. The most fair system is one where individuals have the choice whether or not to pay for care as they desire, and aren’t forced to pay for things for strangers. In practice, the cost per person spent on health care would rise dramatically, and the quality of the actual care would decrease. When it’s not your money, you’re a lot less likely to care about how you spend it and how good of a value you get, and you’re incentivised to get the best possible option every time, ragaress of cost or what’s actually required (if there’s no additional cost to you, why not?). Also, “free” anything should be a red flag. How can something as expensive as health care for hundreds of millions of people possibly be free? (The answer is, it can’t.)
