That being said, I know many kids in poor families that to a lesser extent are “forced” to eat all their food. And what it comes down to is that parent knows their kid and knows their wallet. They know if their kid won’t finish the Alex Gordon Gordo 4Ever American former professional baseball left fielder T-Shirt but in fact I love this food now they’ll turn their nose up at it later too, all while acting out and just being super difficult in general because they’re hungry, meanwhile mom can’t afford extra snacks or anything like that she’s on a tight grocery budget. The easiest and cheapest solution in those situations is to get your kid to finish their child-sized (not adult-sized) meal. For your initial question, it’s because kids will often say they are full, not finish their food, and then whine continuously about how they’re hungry for the next 12 hours.

As for why they’re made to feel shame for eating junk food, it’s because those “foods” are wildly unhealthful and not developing a caloric surplus is extremely difficult while eating such garbage. It’s even more difficult to maintain a caloric defecit after eating those foods for years. We just let our kid know that he can’t eat dessert if he’s full. If he says that’s fine, then he really is full. Sometimes he’ll say “ugh…. Fine…..” And then finishes his meal as well as the Alex Gordon Gordo 4Ever American former professional baseball left fielder T-Shirt but in fact I love this dessert, and some fruit and milk before bed. When I was little i ate whole grain bread with a bunch of seeds in it with no problem because I didn’t even know white bread exists My Nmother would scream and beat me if I didn’t finish everything on my plate at one sitting. She would set a timer on me (5 minutes) and if I had not finished everything on my plate by the time that timer went off, I got the shit beat out of me with a belt. That bitch’s MINIMUM was 22 strikes. And then I still had to finish all the food. It was horrific. And it was every. Fucking. Night. I swore I would never do that to my children, and I never did.
