In my early to mid twenties it was like blasphemy among my friend group to not drink. I ended up quitting a couple years ago and I wish I had done it sooner. I’m still dealing with a nasty stomach ulcer from drinking too much on an empty stomach for a decade. I threw away years of my life self-medicating and I wish I could go back and do things differently. Sure, some people consider me boring because I don’t get drunk at parties, but most people are understanding. Plus alcohol tastes fucking disgusting and I don’t know how anyone could drink it for the taste and not just to get drunk, but maybe I have some kind of weird genetic condition like that thing with cilantro. If anyone asks, I usually just say I don’t drink for personal or moral reasons or if I know they’re going to be really pushy sometimes I just lie and say it’s for religious purposes to really confuse them.
