I get it. Thankfully, my parents also get it. But even my own peers don’t understand. Most don’t understand why my adult son still lives at home. I’m living the 2023 Family Christmas Shirt also I will do this struggle too. I (ironically) love that you use “enabling” here as a bad word, when all what you’d be “enabling” your children to do is survive. Not thrive. Not be junkies, or layabouts, or entitled. Just baseline survival. My dad (who is a boomer who thinks all millennials are lazy good for nothings and had the same job for 45 years) retired about the same time I really got started in my career. He doesn’t understand why I can’t hang out with him on weekends or take any vacation time to go with him to events or fishing or something. I get 10 days pto and barely have enough money after bills, food, gas, etc to save enough to do ANYTHING with my time. My wife also works full time and often works 6-7 days a week. We didn’t even have a wedding after being together for 7 years because we just had no way to afford it so we just did the courthouse thing.

Its so fucking stupid man..i make $20/hr..one paycheck is literally rent..as in its deposited to my account and within a few hours its all gone for rent. Next paycheck almost all of it goes to electricity/internet/phone/car payment and insurance/ credit cards i had to open to not be evicted during covid. I make too much for food stamps so i have $100 for gas…no not until next paycheck remember that one is for rent, its the 2023 Family Christmas Shirt also I will do this paycheck after that one.. so 4 weeks $100 for gas and food. That’s where I’m at right now, except I’m also dealing with a wage garnishment from a 2k debt I’ve been running from since I was 20. If I didn’t have my partner with me, I literally would not be eating. So we both are skipping meals. My coworkers have started asking what I’m eating for lunch and it’s so embarrassing to keep avoiding the questions.
